Our last pillar of Lent is Almsgiving. This pillar involves giving to those in need. Almsgiving reminds us of our responsibility to care for others, especially the poor. It is a way to live out Christ's teachings of love and generosity. The Church teaches that charity is the form of all the virtues. It is not merely a matter of giving alms, but a matter of love. Almsgiving isn’t just about material donations, but about how we give of ourselves—whether through time, money, or resources.

It also involves acts of penance, such as abstaining from certain foods or comforts, as a form of sacrifice. Through fasting, we unite ourselves more fully with Christ’s suffering and the life of the Church.

During lent we focus on the three pillars, prayer, fasting and almsgiving. This is a time to draw closer to God through prayer, whether through personal reflection, attending daily Mass, or participating in worship. It helps to strengthen our relationship with God and grow in spiritual discipline.

Research indicates that individuals who pray regularly report lower levels of anxiety and depression, finding comfort in the act of growing in relationship with God. In times of struggle, prayer creates a space for reflection, gratitude, and inner healing.

The world offers us many definitions of who we are, but our identity lies with Christ and not in labels. Mental health struggles are real, but they do not define your worth. The Lord gives us the grace and gifts of support through one another to move towards healing of these struggles.
