It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hospice University faculty member, friend, and mentor Judy Rybka, RN, BSN, MEd.

We remember Judy for her enthusiasm, caring presence, and commitment to improving access to quality end-of-life care. Our deepest sympathies are with Judy’s family. She will be deeply missed by our entire team and all those who were blessed to know her.

Judy Rybka made a lasting impact on the hospice industry throughout her distinguished career, which spanned more than 50 years.

Implementation of CMS' 2026 payment rule is right around the corner. Oct. 1 brings these key changes for hospices:

• A 2.6% increase in Medicare base rate payments
• Clarification on which physicians can admit patients to hospice care
• Transition to the new HOPE quality reporting tool

While the payment bump offers some relief, many say it falls short in today’s financial and workforce climate. The HOPE rollout, in particular, is raising concerns about readiness and administrative burden.
