Black women continue to be disproportionately impacted by HIV, representing the highest number of new diagnoses among all groups and yet they are also the least likely to take PrEP as a preventative measure.

We get it, the guidelines have been confusing - but the truth is clear - Black women, even if you are in a committed relationship, need to have a conversation about PrEP with your doctor. Because your health is the most important thing and this is something that you have control over.

This Black History Month, we honor the Black scholars, clinicians, activists, and community leaders whose work laid the foundation for s*xual and reproductive health equity.

From advancing reproductive justice frameworks to leading HIV/AIDS advocacy and challenging racism in health care systems, these leaders have inspired change for the community through their tireless efforts.

At the SHEER Lab, we are inspired by this legacy and committed to advancing research that centers equity and justice — for generations to come.

Sexual health isn’t just about disease prevention — it’s about safety, pleasure and empowerment.

But stigma, misinformation, and inequitable access to services continue to create barriers—especially for communities historically excluded from research and healthcare systems.

At the SHEER Lab, we work to advance s*xual health equity through research, education, and community engagement—because every woman deserves to have safe, enjoyable s*x at every stage of adulthood. Follow us to learn more about how we're working toward our mission.
