Today, we pause in collective sorrow as the mental health community mourns the loss of Rebecca White, LMHC, who was tragically killed while caring for clients in Orlando.
Rebecca was doing the work so many of us dedicate our lives to—showing up with compassion, holding space for pain, and offering hope in moments of deep struggle. She was 44 years old, a licensed professional, and a healer whose commitment reflected the very heart of this profession.
Though we did not know Rebecca personally, we recognize the courage her work required. Sitting with suffering, remaining present in crisis, and answering the call to help others is sacred work—work that too often carries unseen risks.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Rebecca’s family, her colleagues, and her clients who trusted her. We also hold close the client who bravely tried to intervene and was injured. The impact of this loss reaches far and wide.
To our fellow therapists: please take a moment today to slow down, to breathe, and to care for yourselves. What we do matters deeply, and this tragedy reminds us of both the power and the vulnerability of our work.
Rebecca White’s life mattered. Her work mattered. We honor her legacy and the compassion she brought into the world.
If you are a therapist struggling in the grief of this loss, please reach out for support. You are not alone.
Rest in peace, Rebecca. 🕊️
