Meet our 2021-2022 KNIGHTS Clinic Directors!

Reanne Mathai and Gary Saloman oversee the flow of the clinic and act as administrative directors outside of the clinic. They ensure each patient receives excellent care before, during, and after their visit. By actively developing unique opportunities to serve, they also work to enhance the student body’s knowledge and understanding of caring for underserved communities.

We asked Reanne why she became a KNIGHTS Clinic Director:
“In my future career as a physician, I would like to run a free clinic for patients with similar backgrounds as those we serve at KNIGHTS. The Clinic Director role allows me to learn the skills necessary to accomplish this goal. It has been extremely fulfilling helping uninsured patients get the medical care they deserve, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when they likely needed the support the most.”

Meet Mason!

Mason Williams is one of the Co-Chairs of our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Team. The EMR Team is responsible for coordinating clinic flow by ensuring all of our student volunteers have access to the EMR system. This system allows volunteers to plan patient appointments, properly document patient encounters, place prescription and lab orders, and share this information with primary care providers.

We asked Mason what inspired her to join KNIGHTS Clinic:
“I joined KNIGHTS Clinic because I wanted to contribute to the impact the clinic has on the Orlando community. I appreciate the opportunity to work with my classmates to provide holistic, continuous, and compassionate care to our patients while learning lessons we will remember throughout our careers.”

Meet Sam!

Samuel Mikhail is one of the Co-Chairs of our Patient Education Team. This team aids in the holistic care of our patients by identifying and addressing lifestyle factors that could be impacting their health. Patient Education discusses these factors with each patient, sets individualized goals with them, and encourages them along their journey to better health.

We asked Sam what he enjoys most about his role in KNIGHTS:
“My favorite part is when patients tell us about the amazing changes they’ve made in their lifestyles. Our team has the valuable opportunity to help patients create personalized lifestyle goals, and through regular communication we’re able to cheer them on from the sidelines!”

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?”
-Martin Luther King, Jr.

Here at the KNIGHTS Clinic, our student, physician, and staff volunteers are dedicated to improving the lives and health outcomes of the underserved populations in our community. Each patient encounter is an opportunity for our student volunteers to develop their clinical skills and diagnostic reasoning. Most importantly, each encounter allows our volunteers to make a difference in the life of a neighbor. Pictured below are three UCF COM student volunteers lending a hand at last night’s clinic: one of our Student Provider Experts, Catalina Hernandez (left), and part of our EMR team, Dylan Shaw and Emily Littman.

Meet our 2021-2022 Care Coordinators!

Pictured working hard at clinic are our very own Care Coordinators, Jovanni Rojas (right) and Pierce Ciccone (left). Care Coordinators are an integral part of KNIGHTS Clinic! They communicate with our patients and care team to schedule clinic appointments and ensure each patient receives optimal care for their unique needs.

We asked our Care Coordinators, "What do you enjoy most about holding this leadership role on the KNIGHTS Clinic board?"
“Our favorite part is the constant, longitudinal communication we are able to have with our patients. We are essentially the first point of contact for any questions and concerns they may have, which allows us to bridge different parts of clinic together!”

We would like to thank the Diebel Legacy Fund at Central Florida Foundation for their continued support!

Next up on the volunteer spotlight is our Clinic Directors! We asked Krisandra and Grant:
“What does volunteering with KNIGHTS mean to you and how has COVID-19 shaped your volunteer efforts at the clinic?”

Krisandra: "KNIGHTS has offered me amazing insight into the unique challenges of leadership that go into student-run clinics. COVID-19 completely altered the entire operation, and it's been a challenging but rewarding experience to see how we can keep the student board, patients, and Grace Medical Home all involved while promoting everyone's safety and social distance. I love serving my classmates and our patient population at KNIGHTS!"

Grant: "Being a part of KNIGHTS student leadership has been an extremely gratifying and humbling experience. Working over this past year to overcome the challenges we have faced to serve our patients, community, and volunteers has forced the clinic to think outside the box and adapt in innovative ways. These necessary changes have spurred new initiatives that have allowed our community outreach and patient education efforts to grow, dynamically. Seeing how much everyone is willing to contribute, sacrifice, and persevere so selflessly for the healthcare and well-being of others has been truly inspiring."

We can’t thank Krisandra and Grant enough for being such dedicated and passionate leaders and look forward to seeing how their efforts and ideas continue to grow KNIGHTS Clinic!
