One of the most common causes of early decay in children is "baby bottle decay." This usually comes from children having frequent access to liquids other than water outside of feeding times. Even diluted juice can give cavity-causing bacteria everything they need to grow.

For better or worse, a lot of kids love those coffee shop drinks! Did you know that even a caffeine-free option, like a Frappuccino, can have up to 1/4 cup of sugar? Occasional treats are fine, but be sure your child brushes their teeth after enjoying one to protect their smile.

Do you know how to clean your child's first tooth? We do! After their first tooth emerges (generally around the 8-month mark, but it can vary significantly for each child), begin to use a toothbrush specifically made for infants to clean their tooth gently. Remember to use only a light smear of toothpaste – about the size of a grain of rice. The sooner you start a routine of brushing your child's teeth, the easier the task becomes as they grow!

While losing baby teeth can be an exciting time for parents and children, that’s not true when an accident happens and permanent teeth get knocked out. If this ever happens, the most important thing to do is to remain calm. Then find the tooth. Hold it by the crown rather than the root and try to reinsert it in the socket. If that is not possible, put the tooth in a glass of milk and contact us immediately.

After 27 wonderful years of serving our community’s children and families, I have decided to step aside and allow another dentist to continue to provide the compassionate care and clinical excellence to which you are accustomed, effective June 27, 2025.

It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to care for your children, watch them grow, and build lasting relationships with so many incredible families. I am filled with gratitude for the trust and confidence you’ve placed in me and for allowing me to be a part of your children’s health and well-being.

As I step into this next chapter, I am thrilled to introduce Dr. Mona Khalaj, who will be continuing the tradition of gentle, high-quality pediatric dental care that you have come to expect. Dr. Khalaj earned her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Nova Southeastern University in 2016 and completed a Pediatric Dental Fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital/Ohio State University College of Dental Medicine in 2018. She then obtained her Pediatric Dental Residency and certification at Wyckoff Height’s Medical Center in 2022.
   
Dr. Khalaj brings with her a wealth of experience in preventive, restorative, and special needs pediatric dentistry. I have complete confidence that you will find her warm, approachable, and deeply committed to your children’s oral health.

Our wonderful team will continue to remain in place to assist in this transition and to support Dr. Khalaj as she meets and cares for each of you.

Thank you again for the privilege of being your pediatric dentist. I look forward to seeing how the practice will flourish in the capable and caring hands of Dr. Khalaj.
