I’m looking forward to seeing what RFK Jr. will do to help America get healthy again!

🧑‍⚕️ When I was pre-med at Boston College, I had to jump through hoops just to take a nutrition course at a nearby university- because it wasn’t even offered in my program. That was my first wake-up call... Health and nutrition have been completely separated in this country! 🚨

💊 At the same time, I worked as a pharm tech and saw firsthand how people would come in and walk out with grocery bags full of meds- and ALWAYS coming back for more. Our system isn’t healthcare—it’s sickcare. The top medications aren’t designed to cure; they’re designed to prolong illness, ensuring a lifetime of dependency while big pharma, hospitals, and insurance companies profit.

🔥 RFK Jr. is one of the few leaders willing to address the root causes of our nation’s health crisis. If we focused on true prevention and real healing, we’d drastically reduce healthcare spending while improving lives.

Right now, we are the sickest nation on Earth, yet we spend $4.9 trillion a year on a healthcare system that’s draining our economy. It’s time for a REAL change!

🌱🍠 Harvest Day 🍠🌱

So excited to share that we just harvested 30 pounds of sweet potatoes from our garden! 🏡 My kids got to experience the whole process, from digging them up to enjoying them at dinner. 🍽️ It’s such a joy to see them connect with where their food comes from.

A big shoutout to my friend Josh at for providing the quality cuttings of variety Tainung #64 sweet potato. If you ever get the chance, definitely grab some of this amazing variety from him. He ships all across Florida and trust me, you won’t be disappointed! 🌿

I bought an Oura ring a few years ago to monitor my sleep and optimize my fitness goals. I had no idea how helpful it would be in predicting COVID infection early and helping me monitor my recovery.

I was still negative on August 8th- three days after being exposed. But on August 9th, my ring let me know my numbers were off. I didn’t feel much different for a few more days. Being able to detect COVID a few days early allowed me to prepare and start my protocol earlier.

Here’s some data I found interesting:

* My total sleep didn’t change but my Deep Sleep time dropped while my REM Sleep time almost doubled.
* My Respiratory Rate went up several points but stayed within the average 12-20 breaths per minute (bpm).
* My Heart Rate Variability (HRV), which is a sign of overall health and well-being, plummeted to 12-13ms. However, it jumped back to normal once I recovered.
* My Body Temperature was off about 4-5 degrees for several days. A typical flu symptom.
* My Resting Heart Rate hit 80bpm at one point which is almost double the normal rate.
* I also have an oximeter ($20, Amazon.com) for monitoring oxygen saturation in the bloodstream. Mine stayed over 95% the whole time which is ideal.

I hope this data helps you with knowing what to look for to detect COVID.

Any wearable that tracks sleep, HRV, Respiratory Rate, etc. will help. I chose Oura ring because I can turn off Bluetooth while I’m sleeping and only turn it on to export my data to my phone.

This weekend was 3rd Annual Yummy Yams event at Oakland Nature Preserve.
Using the power of community, we were able to harvest a few hundred pounds of wild invasive yams to ensure space and time for Florida native species to grow and prosper. The benefit to us was a few hundred pounds of edible yams to go home with participants. These yams can be stored for many months, turned into delicious hash browns and fries, made into flour for waffles and sourdough and are super yummy.
We’re thankful for the land stewards of Oakland Nature Preserve for opening their minds to permaculture ideas and for granting us access to this beautiful land for regeneration to begin. We look forward to next year’s yam event with them.

Hello everyone! Many of us in the Permaculture/Gardening community know how important BIODIVERSITY is to creating a healthy ecosystem. As a permaculture designer, I teach people in Central Florida how to design FOOD FOREST gardens in their yards and community spaces. On Thursday 10/8, I am going to shift INWARD and discuss how to design the INNER FOOD FOREST GARDEN.
New research shows that our guts are populated with trillions of beneficial bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa- living, feeding, and releasing chemicals that regulate important body functions such as our immune system, metabolism, and detoxification pathways. I will show you how to make a salad that can help rebalance your inner ecosystem and improve your health. Click on the link in my profile to register for this Zoom event!

I just completed a fun summer project- an off-grid solar-powered shower! I hooked up the new shower system to a rainwater system specifically made for the shower. The pump has a built-in filter which allows it to draw clean water from any water source- pond, stream, water bucket, etc. The shower and pump can easily be removed and used for camping trips or an outdoor shower. The pump is powered with a solar battery and the water is heated with a propane tank. In hurricane-prone Florida, this shower guarantees a hot shower even if the power goes out or city water gets contaminated. No more showering with chlorinated, fluoridated city water. This pandemic is making us realize how fragile we are when it comes to meeting our basic needs. This system is healthier for the body and the ecosystem. It’s time to start taking more responsibility for our food, water, energy, medicine and other basic needs. No better time to start than today!

Orlando Permaculture's second annual Yummy Yam event was a huge success! We harvested between 250-300 pounds of wild ube yams from a local nature preserve. We also demonstrated how to process and cook the yams. This versatile tuber can be roasted, fried, mashed, and even dried into flour for baking. Unlike potatoes, ube yams can be stored for several months and portions chopped off when needed. Ube yam is considered to be an invasive vine in Central Florida. For the past two years, we've been invited to help remove the vines in exchange for harvesting the delicious tubers they produce underground. Events like these are a great way to help balance the ecosystem and bring community together! @ Oakland Nature Preserve
