Hurricane Milton Update.

Broward County Public Schools and District offices will be open tomorrow, Tuesday, October 8. However, District offices will close at 4 p.m., and all after-school activities, including evening classes, after school care and supper services are canceled.

Given the uncertainty regarding Hurricane Milton’s path and impact, Schools and District offices will be closed on Wednesday, October 9, and Thursday, October 10. All before and after-school care services, activities and events are canceled on both days. The Magnet Program Expo scheduled for Thursday evening will be rescheduled.

We anticipate resuming normal operations on Friday, October 11. As needed, the District will provide updates via ParentLink, social media, and browardschools.com.

Stay safe, Broward!

The district is currently monitoring the path of Hurricane Milton.

At this time, no decision has been made regarding changes to district operations, but we are in contact with the City of Jacksonville’s Emergency Operations Center.

As we get more information from emergency management leaders on the timing and path of the storm, we will be better able to inform our community about decisions regarding district/school operations.

Please stand by for further announcements.

Dear SCPS Families and Students,

Due to the anticipated impact of Hurricane Milton in our area, all schools will follow a regular early dismissal schedule (Wednesday's schedule) on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, and all field trips, afterschool activities, events, facility rentals, and childcare services including KidZone & Beyond and 21st Century Learning programs will be canceled.

All SCPS schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, October 9-10th.

We will make a determination about whether we can have school on Friday once we are able to assess the community’s need for shelters and any potential damage to our campuses. We will provide that information on Thursday.

We will continue to share updates directly with families and staff via our SchoolMessenger system, social media channels, and our website at Home - Seminole County Public Schools (scps.k12.fl.us).

Shelter Information will be available through Seminole County, and we will share this once it becomes available.

UPDATE #3: Schools will be closed on Tuesday as required by the state so we can host evacuees from Hurricane Milton. Our plan now includes 3 days of school closures -- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Employees who have not completed storm preparations as required by IT such as moving technology equipment off the floor and away from windows should report to their work sites on Tuesday and leave after those tasks and any other urgent work assignments have been completed.

UPDATE #2: Select schools will open as shelters early Wednesday, not on Tuesday as originally reported. Lake County Emergency Management will release details.

UPDATE #1: Tuesday (10/8) will be an early release day. Schools will follow a Wednesday schedule for dismissals, and ELC will close at 4 p.m.

Lake County schools will be open on Tuesday (10/8) and closed on Wednesday (10/9) and Thursday (10/10) in anticipation of Hurricane Milton. All after-school activities for Tuesday (10/8) are canceled with the exception of ELC, which will remain open until normal closing hours. Select schools will open as shelters on Tuesday. Timing and locations will be determined by Lake County Florida Emergency Management. We will share those details once they are released. Friday (10/11) is a pre-scheduled student day off and a teacher planning day. Teachers will have the option to work from home or at their school site on Friday, if it’s safe for them to do so.
