Happy New Year, friends. ❤️
We’re starting 2026 with deep gratitude… and a reminder that life can change fast.
Over the holidays, while we were out of state visiting our kids, my husband and I experienced an unexpected heart-related medical emergency. We’re keeping the details private for now, but I can say this: it brought everything into sharp focus in a way you can’t fully understand until it happens to you.
As developers of SAFE Binder, we’ve lived emergency planning from the inside for years — especially as caregivers to my parents. But this time was different.
This time… it was us.
Being out of town made it harder.
When you’re away from home, you realize how many things you normally take for granted.
Thank goodness I had SAFE Binder on my phone and this experience also showed us exactly where we can make it even better. And we will.
Because being out of town turns a medical emergency into a logistics emergency, too.
What surprised me most was that in the moment, I knew how to respond. But afterward, as I talked to others, so many people told me:
“I wouldn’t even know where to start.”
So I’m going to begin sharing what we learned — thoughtfully and respectfully — including a few small things that can matter a lot in those first minutes while you’re waiting for help.
I’m not ready to share the full story yet, but I am ready to share the lessons.
If you’d like to follow along, I’ll be sharing short posts as I process this experience.
We’re okay, we’re grateful, and we’re taking it one day at a time. 💛
Wishing you a steady, healthy start to the new year.
