Most traditional therapy is just a version of non-sexual kink play -
"littles".
We embody cognition. Our unconscious mind thinks in metaphors.
Metaphors Structure Our Experience: We use metaphors to understand abstract concepts in terms of more concrete ones. For example, the metaphor ARGUMENT IS WAR makes us see arguments as something to be won or lost, with sides, attacks, and defenses. This isn't just how we talk about arguments; it's how we experience them.
So what does most therapy do - it infantalizes them by getting them in the headspace of a wounded inner child. It has them come up with elaborate metaphors as it is a natural process when you don't offer or guide a different way of thinking and then it parents them often engaging in the role of a parent to child.
yeah - kink play - littles; just without the sexual context of formal kink play - littles.

There is no such thing as FREE WILL: Gasp! Yeah Neuroscience is out.

Good News:

You don't have to be a strong person to change you just have to create the right conditions so that your brain is able to adapt. Anger and Resentment towards others and self decreases. Paradigms like inner child wounds and work really begin to fall apart and your locus of control becomes internal. You become more powerful and have access to all your resources and the internal chaos decreases which means your external world improves DRAMATICALLY!

Bad News:

Judging anyone for their behavior and expecting apologies is pretty egotistical considering at that time they absolutely could not have done it differently. Do you get angry at a parapeligic person unable to get up and run? No - or at least I hope not. So this moralistic they should have could have - really is I would have liked it to have been different but I understand it couldn't have been is the only real answer.

Sadly people still promote inner child work (external locus of control) both in society and even in the therapeutic community; this complicates and drags out healing. Often they first shift it to external reasons then try to take it internally but the foundation is always built on resentment and anger first when it is done incorrectly - think most of IFS and all of Inner Child Work being what is incorrect.

There are better ways.

I will say the unpopular thing - Maybe therapist should collectively be educating society on Mocking Bird, and Milgrams Experiement and how easily our minds our manipulated instead of keeping people trapped as their own war hero -"the wounded child warrior" living with a metaphorical infection (Wound) inside of them). Like truly go beyond that - REAL shadow work; no transmuting and morphing shame and justification to a new identity but go with..... No identities. If Milgrams experiment has taught us anything it is that "being a good person" and obeying authority superceeds actual moral abilities. THEY ALL GAVE A LEATHAL DOSE OF ELECTRICITY to be a good person and obey authority. Going from I am a victim to look at that great job I did overcoming this mountain is just a different side of the same coin. Attaching anything to the idenity is the fastest way to manipulate a person and therefore a society. People are NOT ready for that conversation yet. We are still stuck on capitalism, professional transferance of being some kind of savior and "good person" and having to feel good all the time. We need a replay of Wall-E. We need real change. Like actual REAL CHANGE. Half the therapist I talk to don't even know that feelings and emotions are not the same thing - they use language in disturbing ways - and many therapist are just reinacting a childhood to be the parent they never had under the guise of a professional license - isn't healing society.

Random thoughts:
Therapist will capitalize off of peoples emotions and curiosity while keeping them from doing the actual work of facing themselves and their thoughts.
They take the facisination of the shadow work contradictions and having some insight....while then pairing it with some wounded child narrative. Speak to our teen they say. Now I am not saying that our childhoods don't have complexities and heartache and trauma and misfortunes of sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse etc....
The awareness needed is both deeper than and very simple but it is not about the bowling ball that hit the sand or the imprint that it left.
It feels so GOOD to clients and therapist that transfer on to their clients to get lost in the I was hurt as a child and forever wounded. While they wallow there the mind stays stuck never fully shifting.
The mind doesn't negate and we act in accordance to the truth as we believe it to be true.
It is as if people haven't seen the movie Wall-E.....just because it feels goods (even if it is pain that "feels" good) it doesn't mean it is good for you. Good being relative - is it optimal and optimal defined by the freedom and clairty to be the complete author of your life without wearing a badge of a war hero....But FULLY clear... no identities.
That is true work. But people are not ready to have THAT conversation yet.
Being a good therapist means that you help cause real change. Complete clarity.
Not try to be the hero in someone's story.

If people understood how language shapes our reality they would stop using like metaphors like "wounded inner child". While it may feel good or give a framework it is harmful and toxic.
