Some of you are going to be very upset with me for sharing this… 😅

But one of the most common things we hear from moms after implementing these foundational changes is:

“I forgot what it felt like to have energy again.”

I know so many of you are in this season too with young kids…

May is Mental Health Awareness Month ❤️‍🩹

Mental health is certainly multifactorial and is influenced by many factors,

but something that doesn’t get talked about enough is that

Nutrition plays a HUGE role in mental health.

We’re so quick to jump to:
“it’s just hormones”
“this is just motherhood”
“I just need to push through”

But research shows:

▶️Low levels of nutrients like vitamin D, zinc, iron, and B vitamins are linked to postpartum depression
▶️Mineral deficiencies (like magnesium, zinc, selenium) directly impact brain function and mood
▶️And these deficiencies are considered a modifiable risk factor for mental health

And it’s not just vitamins and minerals…

👉 your GUT health plays a role too

There’s something called the gut-brain axis where your gut and brain are constantly communicating.

Research shows:

▶️Certain probiotic strains (like Lactobacillus + Bifidobacterium) can improve mood and depressive symptoms
▶️These bacteria can influence serotonin production, inflammation, and stress response
▶️Some are even called “psychobiotics” because of their impact on mental health

👉 your body might be depleted

Especially in a season like postpartum where your body is giving SO much, youre at a higher risk of deficiencies, and that matters.

And this can all impact breastfeeding too.

If only breastfeeding really was as simple as just “supply and demand”.

And it typically is! But there is so much NUANCE! Everyone has a unique case.

This OT was saying “just put your baby to the breast”…”nutrition doesn’t matter”…”cross cradle hold is one of the worst positions…”

There is so much nuance! So please be weary of these accounts who talk in absolutes and please see an actual IBCLC lactation consultant whose entire job is to troubleshoot and help breastfeeding families.

Most moms don’t need more information, they need a starting point.

It’s crazy that formula marketing is OUTPACING breastfeeding support online!

❗️This isn’t about shaming formula.❗️�This is about informed consent!

Per the CDC, ~80–85% of moms start breastfeeding… but rates drop quickly.

There are a lot of reasons for that, but we cannot ignore the impact of:�➡️ aggressive formula marketing�➡️ lack of accessible breastfeeding support

Formula companies have massive ad budgets, influencer partnerships, and strategic messaging designed to plant doubt

Then breastfeeding has
➡️limited support
➡️misinformation
➡️exhausted moms trying to figure it out alone

Then we wonder why so many moms feel like:�“I just didn’t make enough milk”�“My body must not be working”�“Maybe this just isn’t for me”

But the truth is… many moms were never fully supported in the first place.

Again, this is NOT anti-formula!!
�Families absolutely need it, and thank goodness it exists.

But we ALSO need to protect and support moms who do *want* to breastfeed.

Families deserve real education and real support to make INFORMED DECISIONS.

Not decisions influenced by a billion-dollar marketing strategy.

We even approached several months ago, regarding formula ads due to FDA-related concerns, and they responded🎉
