When neck pain and headaches are both more complex than you thought.
This patient has had numerous traumas and was sent out for stress x-rays and we diagnosed with upper cervical instability (likely alar ligaments damaged in the upper cervical spine). They also have a neurological issue termed "oculomotor dysfunction," which is a problem with motor control in the eyes. This is thought to result from "disturbed afferent input from the cervical joint and myscle receptors [dysafferentation]."
This will often times occur after trauma, especially a motor vehicle crash. When the joints are literally moving too much, the muscles will work over time and this combination can lead to all sorts of funky symptoms... Including issues with hand eye coordination.
Majority of the time I find these patients respond VERY favorably to targeted rehabilitation.
If you are struggling, have not found answers or treatment that helps you may have something like this. Give me a call for a thorough evaluation and we'll get it cleared up together.
