🦩 It’s Balance Awareness Week, and we’re taking a moment to talk about something many people experience, but few fully understand: dizziness.

🌀Not all dizziness is the same, and not all of it comes from your inner ear.

👂 Inner ear-related dizziness often feels like the room is spinning (we call this vertigo). It may come with nausea, imbalance, or unsteadiness, especially when you move your head or change positions!

But some symptoms aren’t typically ear-related and may signal something more serious:
🚨 Passing out
🚨 Feeling like you might faint
🚨 Slurred speech
🚨 Numbness or weakness on one side of the body
🚨 Double vision

⚠️ If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms (even if they come with spinning or imbalance), it’s important to seek medical attention right away.

We’re here to help with ear-related balance issues, but your safety comes first. Balance problems can be complex. Please don’t ignore them, and don’t guess!

Stem cell research
🧬 A recent article in LaBiotech explored a groundbreaking development: regenerative cell therapy could actually restore hearing (not just amplify it)!
🔬 Scientists are working with stem cells to create new hair cells and auditory neurons in the inner ear. One biotech frontrunner, Rinri Therapeutics, is advancing Rincell‑1, a therapy designed to regenerate the damaged sensory cells responsible for hearing.
Simon Chandler (CEO of Rinri Therapeutics) shares, “We are taking the approach of transplanting in cells that can become functional mature cells and restore the cytoarchitecture of the inner ear, and therefore, restore hearing.” Early studies suggest even transitioning from “profound deafness to conversational hearing” could be possible!
🧪 There are still many hurdles including: conducting human trials, figuring out the best cell types, delivery methods, and ensuring safety. But experts believe the next five years could bring major breakthroughs. 🕵️
💡Why is this exciting for our field? Individuals with hearing loss rely on hearing aids or implants for treatment, but what if a future solution could actually RESTORE natural hearing?
At Oro Valley Audiology, we stay current on all the latest advancements in the hearing world! We’re curious to follow the journey from lab bench to clinic.

🕊️Today, we pause to remember.
For those who lost their lives…
For those who gave their lives…
We honor your bravery, your sacrifice, and your legacy.
We Remember. We will never forget. 🇺🇲
👂As we reflect, we’re also reminded of the importance of listening. To each other, to our loved ones, and to history.

New update - LG TV’s + Auracast
📺 I’m excited to share a game-changing update I recently read on TechRadar: LG’s 2025 OLED and QNED TVs now support Bluetooth Auracast, a free firmware upgrade enabling simultaneous audio streaming to multiple headphones or hearing aids from one TV!
Here’s why it matters to me and why I think it’s a huge win for our patients and community:
🎧 Shared listening made easy: With Auracast, families can each use their own headphones or hearing aids at their ideal volume, no more compromise on sounds! Imagine watching a movie late at night without disturbing your partner, or grandparents being able to clearly catch every word without cranking up the TV.
👂As your local audiology practice, this excites us because it signals a shift toward normalizing assistive tech. Making it seamless, stylish, and user-friendly.
🤔If you’re curious how Auracast could enhance your home listening setup, or want to see if your hearing aids are compatible, please call us to start the discussion. Let’s bring your entertainment and your quality of life, to the next level! ✨

He told me the hardest part wasn’t the TV being too quiet or needing to ask people to repeat themselves.
👶 It was missing the sound of his granddaughter’s laugh.
🧸 The way she squealed when she ran down the hall.
☕ The softness in his wife’s voice when she asked if he wanted coffee.
“I didn’t realize how much I was missing,” he said.
“And how lonely it felt - right there in the middle of my own family.”
🔊It’s not just about volume, it’s about connection. Hearing loss can make everyday conversations harder, leading some people to withdraw from social situations entirely. If you’re starting to feel disconnected from the people you love most, you’re not alone, and there’s help. Let’s bring those important sounds back into focus. 🦻💛

Hearing aids need TLC, too 🦻

👓 Just like your glasses need polishing to see clearly, your hearing aids benefit from regular attention to help you hear clearly.

⚠️ Over time, dust, moisture, wax, or tiny debris can sneak into microphones or receivers and affect sound quality, sometimes without you even noticing (SNEAKY!). If things seem a little “off,” it might not be your ears, it could be your devices!

🛠️ The fix? A little routine maintenance.

🫰 Whether it’s a quick cleaning, a new wax trap, or just peace of mind, a clean & check appointment can make all the difference.

Let’s keep your hearing on track for fall 🍂Call or message us to schedule your visit!

Dizziness? Vertigo? Disequilibrium? What’s the difference? Let’s break it down:

😵‍💫 Dizziness is a general feeling of lightheadedness, faintness, or unsteadiness (like you might pass out or just feel off balance).

🌀 Vertigo is a specific type of dizziness where you or your surroundings feel like they’re moving or spinning. It often has a strong rotational, spinning sensation.

⚖️ Disequilibrium means feeling unsteady or off balance, often with a sense of spatial disorientation. People with vestibular (inner ear) disorders might stumble frequently or have trouble walking straight or turning corners.

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, especially if they affect your daily life, it’s important to get checked out. We’re here to help you find balance (literally)! 😉

🍁 “The trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let things go.” 🍂

Fall reminds us that change can be beautiful. Leaves turn, seasons shift, and nature gently shows us that letting go of old habits, fears, or uncertainties can lead to something better. ✨

🦻Trying hearing aids for the first time can feel like a big change.
But what if that change brought clarity, confidence, and deeper connection with the people you love?

✨ There is beauty in embracing something new.
✨ There is power in hearing life fully again.

If you’ve been holding back, maybe this season is your sign to let go and step into something better.

🎨 Fun Fact: Did you know Vincent Van Gogh’s famous painting The Starry Night is thought to reflect the dizziness he experienced from Ménière’s disease?

🌪️ The swirling skies might be his way of showing the spinning sensation caused by this inner ear disorder. Art and science truly come together in surprising ways!

🩸Did you know people with diabetes are twice as likely to experience hearing loss?
Why? High blood sugar levels can damage the blood vessels and nerves in the inner ear…just like they do in the eyes or feet!
🐢 But hearing loss often creeps in gradually, and many don’t realize there’s a problem until it’s affecting their quality of life.
👂If you’re managing diabetes, hearing care should be part of your wellness plan. Contact us today to schedule a hearing evaluation!

We always love when kids return! Last year, this little girl visited us but was suffering from ear infections that required medical attention. After receiving the necessary treatment, our partner, Sabrina Love, was able to test her with the new equipment we provided. Unfortunately, she didn’t pass the test, but this led to her being seen at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town, where she was diagnosed with severe hearing loss. Today, she returned to be fitted with hearing aids. It’s heartwarming to see so many people come together to make a difference in one little girl’s life.

Kira has lived with hearing loss her entire life. She often struggles with lip reading, especially due to vision issues without her glasses. Overcome with emotion, Kira was thrilled to discover how Hearing the Call could help her. She left the clinic smiling, happy, and amazed at how well she could finally hear.

At Hearing the Call, some of the most special moments come when we know we’re truly making a difference. This gentleman visited our clinic last year in South Africa to be fitted with a hearing aid. On the very first day of our clinic this year, he was back. We tell adults that if they take excellent care of their hearing aid and return the following year, we will fit them with a second one. He was in great need of a second hearing aid to continue improving his quality of life. Not only was he deeply grateful, but he also expressed how impressed he was with the professionalism and quality of care he received.

Check this out! One of the organizations we are supporting this Giving Tuesday (and every other day of the year), was featured by CBS national news reporter Wendy Gillette! We’re of course talking about Hearing the Call!!! As audiologists, we believe hearing healthcare should be accessible to all. Hearing the Call helps bridge the gap and gives the gift of hearing to those who need it the most, but can’t necessarily afford it.

And though many of our members support Hearing the Call by attending international trips, some have local nonprofits that buildup their communities while others raise funds for necessary equipment and services.

We’re proud to be a part of this group that makes an impact in the U.S, and all across the world! If you’d like to change someone’s life through hearing care with compassion and dignity, please consider donating today: https://hubs.ly/Q02bg3Z40
