hip. Every member on our rescue team puts in many hours each month for training, maintenance, meetings, responding to emergencies, fundraising and many other events to provide you with the most up-to-date proper care when you call upon us. Although we are volunteer departments, we always have people prepared to serve 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The Oronoco Fire Department is a member of the Olmsted County, Wabasha, and Zumbro Valley Mutual Aid groups and the Minnesota Fire Relief Association. Our current apparatus include two tankers, two engines (pumpers), a brush rig (pickup), and a six-wheeler with water and medical equipment. We have new turnout gear and SCBAs (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus). We have two sets of extrication tools used for rescuing entrapped victims from motor vehicle accidents. On the second Monday of the month, we have our business meeting at 7:00 p.m. The fourth Monday of the month is reserved as our training night, which starts at 6:30 p.m. Both meetings are held at the Oronoco Fire Hall. Our training is organized by the Training Officer and includes working with our current equipment.

You’re likely hearing a lot about the potential for severe weather this afternoon and evening.

⚡ There is an enhanced risk of severe weather in the Oronoco area, starting after 4 p.m. The Oronoco EOC and Fire Department will be monitoring conditions throughout the day and coordinating with partners if storms approach the area.

🚨 Be weather aware today.

Steps you can take now:
1) Review your storm safety plan. Make sure you have access to a storm shelter or safe place within your home or office. Below grade is preferred, but an interior room without windows will do in a pinch.

2) Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings. Weather radios, apps, and media sources all work. Pay attention to them this afternoon.

We’ve attached a briefing from the US National Weather Service La Crosse Wisconsin. They are the best place to find up-to-date weather information in our area.

The Oronoco Fire Department and First Responders are prepared to respond to any emergencies.

‼️ Attention Riverwood Hills Neighborhood ‼️

🔥 The Oronoco Fire Department will be conducting a controlled burn at Riverwood Hills Park on Friday, April 10 starting at 5 p.m. (weather permitting).

This controlled burn has been planned with the Oronoco Parks & Trails Committee, Oronoco Public Works, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The area affected is the undeveloped portion of the park on the south side of the Riverwood Hills trail.

Read more details below

Why a controlled burn?
This carefully managed burn will provide several important benefits, including:
• Reducing wildfire risk by safely removing heavy fuel loads such as dried grasses and brush
• Improving overall ecosystem by promoting the growth of native plants
• Helping control invasive species that can out-compete native vegetation
• Recycling nutrients back into the soil, supporting a healthier park landscape long term

What residents may notice during the burn:
During the burn operation, nearby residents may see or experience:
• Smoke and the smell of burning vegetation for a limited period of time
• Visible flames within the park boundaries
• Fire department personnel and equipment staged in and around the park
• Utilization of nearby fire hydrants in and around the park
• Temporary trail or park access restrictions for safety

The Oronoco Fire Department will be on site throughout the burn to ensure it is conducted safely and within established guidelines.

Following the burn, you may notice some slight discoloration in your water for a short period of time. This is due to flushing the fire hydrants during use.

We appreciate your understanding as we work to proactively care for Riverwood Hills Park and reduce future fire risk.
