In Loving Memory of Dorothy Hinkel
October 30, 1923 – November 21st, 2024

"A century of life and love—Dorothy's 101 years on Earth stand as a testament to her strength, grace, and unyielding spirit. She truly made every moment count."

Dorothy Hinkel, born in Perry, Arkansas, on October 30, 1923, to John and Addie Pearl (Blackard) Reynolds, lived a full and vibrant life. She spent much of her younger years in Southern California, where she married her devoted husband, Harold Rosen.

A true trailblazer of her time, Dorothy was proud to serve as a Rosie the Riveter, contributing to the assembly of B bombers during World War II. She later pursued her passion for baking while working in bakeries, a love that would bring joy to her and those around her throughout her life. Dorothy also worked as an apartment manager and as a cook in various restaurants, roles that showcased her hardworking and caring nature.

In her free time, Dorothy enjoyed making handcrafted cards, reading novels, listening to gospel music, cooking, and of course, perfecting her baked creations. Her phenomenal memory and cheerful disposition left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Dorothy is survived by her loving daughter, Darlene Longthorne, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
