Since 2014, Oroville Hospital has collaborated with the African American Family & Cultural Center to provide multiple families with children and elderly individuals facing hunger with the essential ingredients needed to prepare a well-balanced and nutritious Thanksgiving meal. Today, the hospital staff packed 45 boxes for families this year. We are proud to continue this tradition and give families the opportunity to enjoy a special holiday meal.

“This partnership and support are essential to the mission of the African American Family & Cultural Center to reclaim, restore and revitalize our community,” said Cissy Smith, the center’s Assistant Director. “We are thankful for Oroville Hospital and their continued contribution to help us reach more families, children and elderly facing hunger during the holiday season.”

As a Pulmonologist and Critical-Care Physician at Oroville Hospital, Dr. Sidharth Bagga covers a wide range of lung diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD can be a devastating illness, and unfortunately it is one of the most common lung diseases.

“Most patients with COPD that I see have a combination of chronic bronchitis and emphysema, which involves destruction of the lungs over time. Some of these illnesses are inherited, some come to us by chance, like pneumonia, others we get from our own choices,” said Dr. Bagga.

Because many of his patients suffer from smoking-related diseases, he is a true advocate for preventative medicine. "My passion for prevention began early in my career, and I still believe it can the best medicine. Breathing is simple, and that’s the way it should be."

💙 Take small steps. Making changes to your lifestyle and daily habits can be hard, but you don’t have to change everything at once.

💙 Move more. Limit time spent sitting and try to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity, 5 days a week.

💙 Choose foods that are high in fiber and low in fat and sugar. Build a plate that includes a balance of vegetables, protein, and carbohydrates.

💙 Stay up to date on vaccinations. Vaccines are especially important for those who may be more likely to get very sick from the flu, such as people with diabetes.
