Jean Cornman shared the knowledge she has learned in her position as the Bereavement Services Coordinator for Northern Light in Bangor and Brewer and as an Episcopal priest. Find a Comfortable Space: Choose a quiet location where you won't be disturbed.

Sit Upright: Find a comfortable posture, whether sitting in a chair or on a cushion.

Close Your Eyes: Closing your eyes helps to focus inward.

Focus on Your Breath: Pay attention to the sensation of your breath as it enters and leaves your body.

Notice Thoughts and Sensations: Acknowledge any thoughts or bodily sensations without judgment.

Gently Redirect Your Attention: When your mind wanders, gently bring your focus back to your breath.

Short and Regular Sessions: Start with short meditation periods (e.g., 5-10 minutes) and gradually increase the duration as you become more comfortable.

Be Kind to Yourself: It's okay if your mind wanders. Just gently redirect your attention without criticizing yourself.

Incorporate Mindfulness: You can incorporate mindfulness into your daily life by paying attention to your surroundings and activities.
