I love twinning designs! Peep that last one out 🤣 kids always have the most creative requests.

Still, to this day, my favorite requests were from Kiddos: a hyena Pegasus and a hamster hugging a chinchilla 🙈

I Henna’d a whole ass bachelorette party at the sunflower festival!

My main festival season has come to a close. It was so so so good to me.

I’d be lying if I said it was all rainbows and sunshine. There were many hours spent driving, setting up, tearing down. A few blustery storms to weather. A couple slow days. My boys (the animatronic farmers across the way from my booth) singing their same 3 songs year after year.

Ten thousand ‘it can last 7-21 days depending on a number of different factors’ even though there is a huge sign right behind my head saying the same thing.

These minor inconveniences pale in comparison to the light that is this work. The pure joy in a child’s face when I puff away the excess glitter and their design is revealed. The repeat customers excited for their yearly tradition. The friends and family taking photos of my art on their bodies, smiling big together 😁

This is more than henna for me. It’s a vehicle for God to use me to do his work. Just like artists use different mediums, this is but one way God paints his masterpiece though his people. Connection. Talking. Being heard. Sharing love and goodness with one another. This is what it’s all about.

Chloe chose the garden for her private session location today and it turned out to be my favorite appointment I’ve ever done!

The hummingbirds danced around us. The butterflies flitted around the zinnias while the bumblebees kissed the budding raspberries 🐝🍓

My garden is my happy place. My sacred space. To me, it’s truly magical. To be able to create my art and connect with a beautiful human while sharing the beauty around us was one of the highlights of my summer ✨🌼✨

Did you know that dahlia plants grown from seeds are all unique? Meaning no two seedling plants are ever genetically the same. Dahlias are octoploids; they have 8 sets of chromosomes. Even multiple seeds from the very same flower head will all produce different flowers. It’s a genetic lottery! The only kind of gambling I’ll ever take part in.

I grew this dahlia from seed and it’s gorgeous!

This fun info-dumping of dahlia details reminds me of henna. Each design unique. Each one its own individual moment in time, a one of a kind experience.
Each one gorgeous in its own way.

I love connecting with people.

There is so much in this world that is out of our control. The one thing that’s always within my power is being as present as possible with whoever is in front of my two feet.

Hearing your stories and sharing mine, this is the beauty and light that shines so bright we can’t even see the darkness.

I made some henna last week and it was a literal crap show. I learned some things about the shelf life of henna powder and impulse bulk buying because of ‘tariff fear’. I’m now swimming in henna powder I’ll never be able to get through before it loses staining power.

This batch here in the photo is hennagua, henna and jagua combo. I’m sure it wont stain well and I’ll have to scrap the whole batch. An expensive lesson.

In our home, we don’t get in trouble or chastised for making a mistake for the for the first time. We say ‘now we know’ and move on, hopefully not making the same mistakes over and over again.

I’ll be 40 in a few months and somehow I missed out on the genius of the Queen my whole adolescence. Recently I was gifted with an obsession, right on time. I’m in my Alanis Era, and loving every second of it. To quote her:

Isn’t that what life is really about?
