With extreme temperatures hitting our region, it's more important than ever to protect yourself and your loved ones from heat-related illness, especially young children and older adults who are more vulnerable to heat stroke. Dr. Dan Mitchell, Chief of Emergency Medicine at St. Luke’s Upper Bucks Campus, shares these essential tips:
💧 Hydrate: Drink water frequently, especially if you're working, playing or exercising outdoors. Electrolyte drinks can help during intense physical activity, but water is usually enough.
👚 Dress Smart: Wear lightweight, breathable, moisture-wicking clothing to help stay cool.
🥵 Cool Down: Use cold washcloths or towels on your neck. If overheating, apply ice packs to your neck and underarms and use a fan to cool off.
🏥 Go to the ER or call 911 if you are experiencing heat stroke symptoms. Stay safe, stay cool and check in on your neighbors.
