What’s your first thought when you wake up in the morning?

Do you swear as your alarm sounds off?
Do you feel depressed and overwhelmed before you even start your day?
Do you immediately jump into “ON” mode?
Do you start the day with gratitude?
Are you excited to start your day?

This week, intentionally keep track of the very first thoughts you have when you wake up in the morning.

Understanding what your default emotions and feelings are first thing in the morning can give you some insight into the areas of your life that may need an overhaul or if you are generally on track with your goals and aspirations.

And even if you wake up hating the world, it doesn’t mean your life is completely out of sync with what you desire most—it could just mean you are waking up mid-sleep cycle and need to adjust your sleep/wake times.

Here’s the truth most “weight loss plans” skip right over…
Sleep isn’t just “nice to have.”

How I get my family on board with my routine without meltdowns or misunderstandings

I get it…

It can be so difficult when you’re dealing with midlife changes, stubborn weight gain, and trying to build healthier habits to get your family on board with what you need to thrive. Sometimes it feels like you’re the only one changing while everyone else keeps doing things the old way.

Here are three things I do to help with the transition and to ensure this doesn’t become a constant battle or a point of conflict:

Tip #1: Communicate. Be clear about what you need and why. Instead of keeping it bottled up or hoping they’ll just “get it,” I let my family know exactly how my routine supports my energy, mood, and health.

Tip #2: Educate. Most people don’t realize how much hormones and metabolism shift after 50. I explain what’s going on in my body so they understand this isn’t a “diet”—it’s about my long-term health.

Tip #3: Follow up. It’s not a one-and-done conversation. I check in with them and remind them of the bigger picture. When they see how much better I feel, they’re more willing to support me.

My best tips for avoiding falling back into habits that leave me bloated, exhausted, and starting over every Monday…

If you want to stay on track toward your goals, it’s important to understand what trips you up—and plan for it.

Here are 3 things I do to avoid the temptation to spiral:

#1: I set firm boundaries around my time and energy – When I’m overwhelmed, I reach for food, skip meals, and lose focus fast. Protecting my energy = protecting my progress.

#2: I make sure I’m well rested – No sleep = cravings, mood swings, and zero willpower. Rest keeps my hormones (and my hunger) in check.

#3: I remind myself how awful I feel when I spiral – Bloated, puffy, foggy, and frustrated. I use that memory to stay grounded—not to punish myself, but to stay aligned.

When you understand your patterns, you can stop reacting—and start leading yourself forward.
