Play is an important part of maintaining ones mental health. Play reduces one's cortisol levels, which also reduces stress and anxiety. Couples that play together report a greater sense of connectedness, joy and martial satisfaction. As adults in today's serious, busy world it can be difficult to think about playing unless you have children. Here's some ways you can play as an adult:
1. Have a Nurf gun party with friends, family or just you and your significant other.
2. Play Twister
3. Play tag
4. Go to a local park and play, yes play!
5. Swing
6. Shoot hoops
There's a lot of ways one can play. We found a great place to play in St.Louis MO called the City Museum. I'm attaching some photos. We spent hours there crawling in caverns, sliding down a 10 story slide, and crawling stories above the city streets through metal tubing. Everywhere you look there's a way to get under or inside of something, truly a fun experience. If you're up for a fun adventure we highly recommend it! Otherwise, be creative and find ways to play right at home. You'll find yourself less stressed and having something to look forward to 😊

I thought this was a good read as it resonates with so many stories I've heard not to mention the research. Social media is a great way to connect, but too much of it can affect ones self esteem in a negative way and create increased isolation.

Is social media doing a number on your mental health? Here are some ways you can cope.

Learning how to self regulate, be in the moment and be fully present isn't always an easy thing to do especially if you struggle with anxiety, racing thoughts or feelings of dread. At Higher Ground Family Therapy we use a variety of therapy methods like DBT, ACT, pet assisted therapy and other methods to teach our clients ways to regulate their sympathetic nervous system. This allows clients to feel calmer, more confident and people have reported to have a better overall quality of life.
