Finished cutting and assembling 28 bee escapes today!
For those that don't keep bees or are newbees, these will be placed on the hives between the brood boxes and supers a few days before I pull the supers to extract the honey. They work like a funnel trap. The bees follow the maze out of the supers into the brood chambers. If I pull the supers in a few days, the bees won't have enough time to figure out how to get back in the supers. Less bees to contend with when I remove the supers full of honey to extract.

This video is of a swarm in flight. It takes them over 24 minutes to pick s6pot on a tree and cluster. The video is sped up 4X. Turn up your volume to get full effect. Notice how they quiet down once they cluster.

Put out 7 swarm traps yesterday! May is usually the start of swarm season, but I like to have them out a few weeks early to get the foraging bees a chance to check them out before they swarm. I have already heard of some early season swarms being caught!

Coffee, baked goods, breakfast, and sandwiches will be sold. Be prepared to enjoy some of the best baked items you have ever tasted! Lizzie uses Swarm Chasers Honey in her protein ball snacks and her honeybutter! My favorite is her wheat bread with my honey, although her cinnamon rolls are amazing and hard to beat as well. Lizzie's Kitchen is located on Highway 69 across from MFA north of Leon. Pick up some fresh made baked goods and don't forget the local honey! The two go great together!
