Seth turned to TCO for shin splints and left with answers for a mystery bump. After surgery and recovery, he’s clocking PRs and redefining what’s possible.
“After discovering inner calf pain during training last year, I visited TCO thinking it was just shin splints. While I was there, I also asked about a bump above my right knee, something I’d had since middle school. It never caused pain, but during long endurance runs, it held me back from reaching my full potential. I learned it was osteochondroma, and over time, my kneecap had been pressing against it, causing fluid buildup around my quad.
I made the decision last November to have it removed, hoping it would open the door to what I could truly accomplish as a runner. I chose TCO because of the incredible rehab care I received from them two years prior for a shoulder dislocation. Their team helped me rebuild beyond full strength then, and I trusted them again. Dr. Neil Johnson and his surgical assistant exceeded every expectation, especially with it being my first surgery. Their follow-up care, reassurance, and clarity meant everything.
Training HAUS Physical Therapist Krystan Coyle played a huge role not just physically, but mentally. When the setbacks came, and they did, she was always there with support, advice, and compassion. She gave me mental anchors when I doubted myself and showed me how far I could safely push through fear or pain. The entire HAUS team knew me by name. I never felt like just another patient; I felt like an athlete they truly believed in.
I ran a half marathon just 150 days post-op and crushed my time from last year by over 11 minutes, finishing in 1:59:27. I never walked a single step. I then competed in Great Grandma’s Half Challenge: a 5K on Friday and a half marathon on Saturday, all while fundraising for su***de prevention. I set another PR by six seconds. I couldn’t believe I did it during such a humid race. My mindset has shifted. I now train smarter, not just harder. TCO and Training HAUS didn’t just help me recover; they gave me back the belief that I could go further than I ever had before.”
