No two people with autism are the same because there is a wide spectrum of autism, where individuals experience varying strengths, challenges, and unique characteristics. My son’s struggles are totally different than another child with autism because they are both unique individuals, but both their brains just work differently.

Avery met the majority of his developmental milestones, talked on time, walked on time, always would laugh and smile and play, which is not always typical for children with autism. He was super focused on trains (obsessive interests) would line up toys, get upset by minor changes, and easily overstimulated, which became more apparent once he started preschool. He had a very hard time interacting and playing with others and preferred to play the alone or with an adult. I will always be grateful for his amazing preschool teacher who helped us identify Averys needs.

Avery was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder level 2 when he was 5. He struggles daily with social interactions and social cues and has a hard time making friends.

Avery is also the funniest and kindest kid. He loves to draw and is very creative. He is very good at telling his loud mother to “please be quiet”🤫 and I have learned to change the way I interact to help him. He has his challenges too and we work daily to overcome those. So maybe my son isn’t the “typical” looking Autistic kid, which I don’t know that there is, but his brain does work differently than others and through the good and the bad days I would not change a thing.

April is Autism Awareness Month and also a great month to celebrate the unique strengths and abilities of people on the spectrum!

Today is World Autism Awareness Day and April is Autism Awareness Month!

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a condition related to brain development that affects how people see others and socialize with them with other wide range of symptoms. These symptoms can differ person to person and that’s why we see the spectrum term used.

There is no cure for Autism, but treatment can help with improving behaviors, skills and language development.

No person with Autism is the same so it is good to have support and a treatment plan in place to help them be their optimal selves.

Today is World Bipolar Day!

Bipolar is a mental health condition characterized by significant mood swings, including manic (or hypomanic) episodes and depressive episodes.

Mania is a state of abnormally elevated mood, energy and activity, so super high energy with needing little to no sleep! Manic episodes typically last at least one week and can require hospitalization. Hypomania is for a shorter period of time, around 4 days.

Constant mood swings does not mean you have Bipolar!

Psychotherapy and medication are treatment options!

Finishing our mindful week up on this beautiful Sunday by planning something you can accomplish this next week!!

Planning out your week or making a to do list can help alleviate any extra stress or anxiety!

My husband and I finally cleared out our storage unit and brought it all home, so my plan is to order some new totes and start organizing what we want to keep and get rid of the rest! May not get it all done this next week, but have to start somewhere!!
