"It's the most griefy tiiiiiime of the year!"

Yes folks, today is it: my hardest grief day all year. Today marks 13 years since my dad died in a car accident.

It crept up on me this year. I've been so busy with other things, and the pain of his loss literally stopped me in my tracks today.

So, I'm taking the day to honor my grief and spend time with it. Do some crying, some remembering, and maybe have a shot of whiskey in his memory.

He is the reason behind my deathwork. The grief and the aftermath of his death paved the road and ignited the spark for me. While I wish I still had him here with me, I owe him so much.

Below is a poem I wrote today about my grief, and how it is manifesting today, and two of my favorite photos of the two of us together.

Sending you all love today and every day.

Until we are ghosts,
Bryn

Rainn Wilson says he might quit acting and become a death doula: 'I think that there's a lot of hope to give people.'

Would anyone want to get a group together for this? 🖤

Grief platitudes and knee-jerk responses might be meant to comfort but they can be more harmful than supportive. Even if you’re coming from a good place! Instead, meeting people where they are at and offering the support they need for their situation is best. Not every response is applicable to every situation, so being present and thoughtful is incredibly important.

What would you add to this?

A cremation funeral held for a tiger in 2022. The tiger was known by locals as "Collarwali". She died at the age of 16 of natural causes and gave birth to 29 cubs from 8 litters throughout her life.

In January 2022, hundreds of villagers and forest officials gathered in India’s Pench Tiger Reserve to bid farewell to one of the country’s most famous tigresses — Collarwali, whose name means “the one with a collar.” Fitted with a radio collar by wildlife researchers in 2008, she became a symbol of successful tiger conservation, allowing scientists to track her movements and understand how big cats adapt in protected areas.

Over her 16-year lifespan, Collarwali gave birth to an extraordinary 29 cubs across 8 litters, making her one of the most prolific known breeding tigresses in the wild. Many of her offspring went on to disperse into surrounding forests, helping to repopulate tiger habitats across central India.

When she died of natural causes, officials honored her with a traditional Hindu-style cremation covered in marigolds and sandalwood. The ceremony reflected the deep respect locals and wildlife staff felt for the “Queen of Pench,” whose legacy continues to shape India's tiger story.

Hey all!

I've been cooking up a few ways to connect with all of you, and there is a Discord server in the works that I'm really excited about. But for now...

Introducing Grave Pages: a Death Book Club! I'm super excited to get into reading some amazing deathy books with all of you, and we are starting with one I'm really jazzed about: "Memento Mori: The Art of Contemplating Death to Live a Better Life" by Joanna Ebenstein!
From the description:

"Talking about death has been deemed morbid, taboo, or even pathological. But in order to fully embrace life, scientists, psychologists, and spiritual leaders all agree—contemplating death is the key to living a life with meaning.

This life-changing book will give you a 12 week program to befriend death in your own way, creating your own personal, daily meditation on what it means to be mortal. Through personal anecdotes, historical examples, meditations, exercises, journal prompts, and reflections, you will learn to both come to terms with what death means and to live alongside it without fear. In doing so, you will see your own life in a new light and discover what makes life worth living. After all, there’s no better motivation to seize the day than a regular reminder that your days are numbered.

Whether you're struggling with anxiety, grieving a loved one, or seeking a greater sense of purpose, Memento Mori is an invaluable guide to living a life of greater meaning and joy."
Our first meeting is October 5th and we will be discussing the first two chapters! For more info and to register your interest, please follow this link to a quick form: https://forms.gle/quyFPWsH3h3TU8Pd9

Feel free to share this with friends who might be interested. I'm looking forward to diving deeper with you. 🖤

Til we are ghosts,
Bryn

Pet Death Doulas! 🐾
You probably have heard of , but I had not until introduced me to it.

What a beautiful way to honor our furry family members. I love that you can write/draw on the bag and personalize it (similar to wooden coffins for humans that you can decorate).

While we’re talking about pet loss, a gentle reminder that end-of-life planning includes planning for your pets!

If you have experience using the Euthabag, I’m curious about your experience! Please share!
