Facts about Historic Riverside Cemetery; On June 6, 2003, Riverside Cemetery was honored to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places. An honor this special place truly deserves.

The chapel at the main entrance to the cemetery was built in 1920-1921 by Oshkosh architect Julius Dreger. It is designed in the classic Romanesque Revival style, popular in the 1920s. In the 1900s, church services were celebrated in this chapel daily. The cemetery and chapel were serviced by a trolley, which stopped outside the chapel doors.

The interior of the chapel holds two original oil paintings by local artist Gustav Behncke. Mr. Behncke donated these exquisite works of art to the cemetery: the Resurrection in 1930 and the Crucifixion in 1942. See Mr. Behncke's photo!
