The Dr is in πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ

We're not only a comfy little shop stocked full of fun and eco-friendly eyewear, we're also optometrist owned and ready to check your eyes for annual exams, glasses or contacts prescriptions, dilated exams and retinal photography, diabetic eye exams, pink eye/infections, eye injuries... Etc etc.

If it's been more than a year or two since your last eye exam, consider this your reminder to check it off your to-do list... Even if your vision feels fine, there are many preventative care findings looked for during an eye exam so it's important to stay up to date on checkups.

Now seeing patients on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends. Check appointment calendar at justeyesoptometry.com or use link in bio to see full availability!

A great little poem by a dear older friend of mine, shared with permission and now with a home on my shop bulletin board until I get a frame.

I imagine this poem is about Goldmann tonometry to measure the eye pressure and check for glaucoma. But wow does it sound like so much more than that as a poet ❀️

Any other poets out there that want to come for an eye exam and try their hand at some optometric poetry? πŸ€“

Not quite red, white & blue but I'm low key impressed by how well these light gradient tint samples I just got in from really match my shop aesthetic ✨

(Also the orange one is designed for golf! Any golfers out there already wearing this type of tint to play? maybe?)

πŸ™Prayer plant 🀲

A new addition to the shop (more posts about new plant friends to come, thanks to human friend )

And an echo of prayers for peace... My heart hurts so often these days. Thankful for this hopeful little plant, raising its leaves every day 🌱

Let's talk about prism!

Prism, when used in glasses, is a way to shift images up, down, or to the side to help patients that may be seeing double or otherwise having difficulty with getting both eyes to work well together.

These glasses have prism correction in the left eye... If you look through the lens you can see how the line of the countertop behind it is raised up when compared to the right!

Prism correction is not something I prescribe on a daily basis, but it can help explain difficulties with tracking or headaches when reading, vertigo/dizziness symptoms or even just why glasses have never felt quite right for some people. It's usually due to eye muscle or nerve imbalance, and can be more pronounced with age.

Have you heard of prism in glasses before?

Let's talk about sunglasses 😎

Not all sunglasses are created equal... Polarized vs tinted, mirrors, UV, backside antiglare, what's all that?

First of all, for sunglasses to legally be sold in the United States they all have to meet the same UV protection standards... So unless you're buying somewhere super sketchy you can probably trust that they will protect your eyes from the sun's harmful UV rays.

Polarized sunglasses are going to provide the darkest lenses and the most crisp vision with the least glare. They use a specialized lens design to physically block light rays across the full spectrum from going through the lenses, vs a tinted lens that just filters out certain wavelengths.

Mirrors are usually a style choice that reflect light out and make it so people looking at you are unable to see your eyes, but do not impact your vision looking out.

Backside antiglare is sometimes added on the back of sunglass lenses to allow more light to reflect out and decrease the amount of light to the eye. It's usually seen as a bluish green reflection on the inside of the sunglass lenses.

Now you're all ready for summer!
