From managing feeding disorders and developing therapeutic diets to preparing specialized formulas and monitoring each child’s nutrition, their expertise helps ensure every child has the support they need.

Pixie dust was in the air as Sunshine transformed into the most magical place on earth! From games and crafts to sing-alongs, our Disney Day was filled with joy, imagination, and nonstop smiles. Staff brought the magic to life in their best Disney gear, making the day even more special! Inspired by a wonderful Sunshine parent suggestion, it was a day full of laughter, connection, and happily-ever-after moments we won’t forget. Thank you to everyone who helped make the magic happen!

Happy and First Day of Spring!

There’s nothing like fresh air, sunshine, and time outdoors, hearing all the laughter in our sensory playground, taking peaceful pond walks, and enjoying those simple moments that fill our days with joy. Watching our children and staff soak up the sunshine and the beauty of nature is what Sunshine is all about. Here’s to longer days, brighter skies, and all the happiness spring brings!

We’re proud to announce that our school nurse, Symone Griffin, has been named New York State Family Liaison for The Charge Syndrome Foundation! In this role, she connects families across New York to resources, support, and community. This is especially meaningful to her as someone who shares this journey.

Symone is also serving as a patient mentor in a research collaboration with the University of Michigan genetics team, offering lived‑experience insights to advance research on CHARGE syndrome.

As part of her advocacy, she will host a local Walk & Roll for CHARGE on April 25, 2026. She will be leading a New York team there and welcomes anyone who’d like to join, support, or help spread awareness! Today, Sunshine celebrated the birthday of the one and only Dr. Seuss! Our amazing staff volunteered to read to our classrooms and young adult group, bringing favorite stories to life with laughter, rhymes, and lots of smiles. A great time was had by all of as we honored the magic, imagination, and the joy that Dr. Seuss continues to bring to readers of every age. Oh, the fun we had at Sunshine!

February is Therapeutic Recreation Month, and we’re proud to celebrate the incredible Sunshine Recreational Therapists who bring joy, creativity, and meaningful connection into every child’s day. Through adaptive activities, sensory experiences, and inclusive play, they help our children build confidence, strengthen skills, and truly bring fun to everything they do.
