Employee Spotlight: Symone Griffin, LPN
From Patient to Pediatric Nurse
At Sunshine, we are proud to shine a light on Symone Griffin, LPN, whose personal journey from medically fragile child to dedicated pediatric nurse is nothing short of inspiring.
Symone was born with CHARGE syndrome, a complex genetic condition that shaped much of her early life. “Being medically fragile was all I knew,” she shares. “Doctors, machines, hospitals, and the operating room were just part of everyday life. I knew my trach size before I memorized my multiplication tables.”
From the beginning, Symone dreamed of becoming a nurse. “I always wanted to be a nurse since I was a little girl, because I didn’t know anything else. I’d play ‘hospital’ with my Barbies and stuffed animals, and much to my mother’s dismay, I used my very real and very expensive medical supplies to take care of them.”
That early passion became a lifelong mission. Today, as a school nurse at Sunshine, Symone brings unmatched empathy and insight to her role. “I show up every day for medically complex children the way others once showed up for me; with compassion, understanding, and dignity.”
Symone is not only a caregiver, she is also an advocate and content creator, using her voice and platform to speak up for children like those she serves and adults like herself. “I advocate both in real life as a nurse and on my social media platforms to ensure that children like them and adults like me are never left out of the conversation.”
Symone embodies the very spirit of Sunshine: strength, compassion, and a commitment to every child’s dignity. We are honored to have her on our team.
