John Crawford, a second generation funeral director has been personally serving our communities for over half a century. A lifelong resident he has devoted much of his time in volunteering in the community as a Fire Chief, President of the Rotary Club, The Westchester County Funeral Directors Association, Chairman of The Baker-Collyer Holiday Cheer Fund, Westchester & NYS Fireman’s Association, Chamber of Commerce, Trustee at the Public Library, his place of worship, youth recreation as well and other community activities where he has received proclamations for his outstanding service. During John’s tenure as a licensed funeral director he has managed independent as well as corporate funeral chapel locations being responsible for activities associated with operations, customers, staff, facilities and financials and has received recognition for his dedication serving families in numerous denominations during their most difficult times. Teodora “Dora" Conte a longtime resident of Ossining passed away on September 26, 2018 in Campobasso, Italy. She was 57. Dora was born December 6, 1960 in Sassinoro, Italy to Modestino and Vera Tracanna Conte. She graduated from Ossining High School class of 1979. She was married to Paolo Arienzano. Surviving are her husband, parents and two brothers Frank and Mario Conte. Memorial Mass Saturday, September 29, 2018, 11:00 am at St. Augustine Church, Ossining.

Madelina Quast of Ossining passed away on August 13, 2018, at home with her family. She was 88. Mrs. Quast worked as a Supervisor for Maryknoll Fathers. She had worked for the Father’s for over 20 years before retiring in 1996. Prior to coming to Ossining, she worked as a seamstress for a designer in New York City. Madelina was born on August 7, 1930 in Jamaica, Queens to Giambattista and Olympia Lucarelli Azzizzi. She married Walter Quast in Hollis, Queens on September 23, 1962. Walter passed away in 1991. Mrs. Quast had been a resident of Ossining since 1962 coming from Queens. Locally she was a parishioner of St. Ann’s Church and enjoyed spending time with her family and community. She is survived by three sons Walter (Diana), Kenneth (Lisa) and Dennis (Kami), one brother Dominick Azzizzi , 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she is pre deceased by her sister Rose Case and brother Gus Azzizzi. Funeral Mass St. Ann’s Church, Ossining on Saturday August 18th at 10am. Interment following at St. Augustine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions to The Ossining Fire Dept. Walter Quast Scholarship Fund, 21 State Street, Ossining, NY 10562 would be appreciated. Edward C. Altro, Sr. a former resident of Ossining, NY died on April 10, 2018 at the Vassar Bros. Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Ed was 72. He was born in the Bronx on April 14, 1945 son of Joseph and Cecilia Scott Altro. He was a resident of New Paltz. Ed was a franchise owner of Wise Potato Chips, local distribution route for twenty years before retirement. He served in the US Navy from 1964-1966. He is survived by three sons, Scott, Edward, Jr., and Christopher, one daughter Jennifer, one brother Art , one sister Joyce and several grandchildren . Pre deceased by two brothers Ronald and Joseph and one sister Kathy. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. John G. Crawford Funeral Director.

Leslie Sharman Peterson, beloved and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away suddenly on March 12, 2018. She was 63. A service in celebration of Leslie’s life will be held on Saturday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. at The Briarcliff Congregational Church, 30 South State Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY.
