Peaceful Remedies

Peaceful Remedies Peaceful Remedies is a 501c3.

Peaceful Remedies is improving the healing experience for those impacted by life altering illnesses and conditions by bringing holistic options of therapy and support to individuals in a safe and peaceful environment. Peaceful Remedies vision is to empower individuals affected by life-altering diseases providing a community space that offers support groups, speakers, and therapeutic intervention.

Peaceful Remedies will be a warm, welcoming space for relaxation and meditation where survivors, caregivers and those battling disease can share their experiences and find a wealth of support in each other. In addition to being a communal space, we will suggest a variety of holistic health services and regular panels and discussions on matters pertaining to our clients. We will provide a resource database where people can research the challenges and illnesses they are facing, as well as learn about local and national non-profit events. By bringing together survivors and caregivers and giving them both the ability to educate themselves and access to alternative treatment, we hope to lead each other to a place of strength, peace and happiness.

10 Year Anniversary
March 2023 brought something entirely new to Peaceful Remedies. A monthly Sound Bath began being offered. This was a holistic method that the organization had not used before but recognized it was becoming more sought after as a way to reduce stress, anxiety and support a healing journey. Each month Megan Hook of Mindsound, a certified sound healer, conducts the sessions which are complimentary to those diagnosed and caregivers. .

10 Year Anniversary
In 2016 the organization began a Comfort Bag program. The idea is credited to Patricia Lester who handmade a special item to include, a quillow, a quilt and pillow in one, made of soft material and lots of love and compassion. Along with the quillow several items are included that bring physical and emotional comfort to someone diagnosed and in treatment. Today, this program has grown and incudes several volunteers that help sew and put together the bags for delivery.

10 Year Anniversary
In 2020 several programs became available virtually. We very quickly learned how to “Zoom.” One of the programs that came out of that year was Book Club. The first remote book club began in October 2020. The group reached its maximum number of participants and had a waiting list. Education has always been a goal of the organization. People shared, discussed, learned, debated, engaged, socialized without having to leave their homes. Since then four more book clubs have been hosted in person and virtually.

In the fall of 2019 Peaceful Remedies received a phone call from someone asking what we offered to those who were immobile and couldn’t get to us. Hmmm. Our answer was “nothing.”
It was something to think about and discuss. Well, 2020 rolled around and that concept jumped to the top of the list. The organization did not put a brake on very much during that time. We found a way to carry on and also added some things.
One of the new ideas was the Miles For Mary program. During July we typically celebrate Mary Gosek Day in the City of Oswego and Mary’s birthday, July 30. That wasn’t going to happen in 2020. With everyone distancing and spending a lot of time at home, we decided to encourage people to get out and move for health and wellness. Miles For Mary took place in July that year and what a success it was. Registrants totaled 131. Wow! People shared their adventures as they covered miles walking.
Since then, the program has expanded to include covering miles any way you want...walk, run, swim, bike, kayak, roller skate if you want. Just move! Local businesses The Mix and Oswego Sub Shop sponsor the program.

10 Year Anniversary
In October 2019 the organization added a new service unlike any of the others. Volunteers attended an evening training to become peer supporters for participants. The Connecting Hearts Peer Support Program links people with a life altering illness or condition and caregivers to a peer volunteer in a sincere, compassionate space. We saw this happening organically between people and wanted to make it a formal program available to all participants. This connection aims to offer a positive impact on health, wellness and healing. Participating may help people to connect with others, learn strategies to cope, reduce anxiety and stress related to a diagnosis, find comfort and support and help be aware of community resources. Connecting Hearts strives to empower individuals to manage a diagnosis in a way that is best for them on their journey to health, wellness and healing.
