As an elder millennial and Disney connoisseur, I have lots of 90’s music on my playlist. This song played today on our way to church, and as a person who seeks wellness for myself and others, the words resonated with me in our current national reality, so I thought I would share it with you.

Why Tōv Wellness?

Our faith is important to both Katie and I, and we try our best to keep it at the center of the process when making decisions.

One of the strongly held beliefs that we both have is that humans are the image-bearers of the Divine. For us, that closely aligns with the Christian God. As image-bearers, we believe that all people, no matter their race, gender or gender-identity, s*x or s*xual identity, ethnicity, religion, creed, political affiliation, no matter what, you are loveable.

During God’s creative work in Genesis, God looked at their work, and saw that it was good. The Hebrew word for good is “tov,” and according to Strong’s Hebrew, tōv carries much more meaning than that; it means “good, pleasant, agreeable, beneficial, beautiful, best, better, bountiful, cheerful, at ease, fair, favor, fine, glad, goodly, graciously, joyful, kindly, loving, merry, pleasant, precious, prosperity, ready, sweet, wealth, welfare, well-favored” It is an adjective that speaks to anything and everything that is good.

At Tōv Wellness, we believe that people are created by Goodness for goodness. The journey to the goodness for which each person was created is full of unknowns, tragedies, joys, growth, and so many more things that catch us off guard. We believe that everyone needs help at points along their journey, and that is what we try to provide our clients: a person to hold hope when someone might need help carrying it.

We chose the word wellness for our practice because we believe that, as image-bearers, people are multi faceted. Wellness isn’t just mental or physical; Tōv Wellness subscribes to the 8 aspects of wellness: physical, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, social, occupational, financial, and environmental. When one of these aspects is out of balance, it can affect the other aspects.

Goodness through balance in all aspects of wellness is something we believe all people deserve, and we hope to help our clients and the people of Ottumwa and surrounding areas to experience.

Thank you for coming on this journey with us. We will continue to share our story as it unfolds.

One of the most powerful things I have learned about self-care is that everyone is unique, so drinking chamomile tea isn’t going to be self-care for everyone. You must do things that bring YOU joy. For me, it’s not wearing socks, ever really. They are uncomfortable, and I get too hot. 🥵 Unpleasant! Anyway, explore ways of self-care for yourself and see what fits. If it doesn’t, no shame, just move on to the next thing.
