Support William "D" McCluskey

Support William "D" McCluskey I am currently back on dialysis. This is what happened to William "D" McCluskey, fondly known as D to his family and friends. the Affordable Care Act.

I medically retired from the Heber-Overgaard Fire District as of February 2023 due to the complications of multiple squamous cell skin cancers and additional complications my kidney transplant of 7 years has failed. Imagine going to sleep worrying about the weather, and the next day waking up to find out you will now have to worry about possible funeral preparations, losing your home, and food on the table. D received news that he is in end stage renal failure. After numerous painful procedures to attempt to help him he is now receiving dialysis 3 times a week for 3.5 hours. D is awaiting a kidney, however it could take years for him to receive one. D is the sole bread winner for his family. A small business owner who has no long term or short term disability, and health insurance through "the market place" i.e. For small business owners the ACA insurance covers less than the bare minimum. Medical bills on top of daily living expenses are all piling up. D does not qualify for assistance as of this time. Even if he did qualify for medical assistance; this would not change the fact that he cannot work. Please find it in your heart to donate to this cause. If you are unable to donate it is okay! We ask that you share our page and keep D and his family close to your heart and in your prayers. FAQs

How will my donation help? D and his family are in jeopardy of losing their home. Your donation will prevent them from being homeless and allow them to focus on D's care. Can't the government help? He doesn't currently qualify for any assistance, D has no short term disability or long term disability. What is his health status? Where can I find updates ? Updates will be provided here and on the go fund me page. Typically every Wednesday and if needed Friday. I think I can help in another way, who do I contact? Please message us here! We would love to talk with you.

When it turns cold and we use our wood heaters, it’s easy to skip safety steps. Follow the same process every time and your home and valuables are safe and secure!

Firefighters in the greater Whiteriver Community have responded to a few fires due to home owners improperly disposing of their woodstove ashes. Ashes can contain embers that are hot enough to ignite combustibles DAYS after having a fire. Please do your part by properly disposing of ashes.

Here are some tips for dealing with hot ashes/embers:

*When disposing of ashes outside DON’T dump them on a combustible surface.

*Use water to wet the ashes/embers to make sure they are completely out.

*Only use an approved metal ash bucket. It should have a tight fitting metal lid and a double-bottom.

*Don’t dump ashes outside on a windy day. The wind can whip up what may have seemed cool embers, making them fiery hot and sending them traveling to ignite nearby combustibles.

*Never burn garbage, wrapping paper, plastic, cardboard or anything not specifically approved for use in a fireplace. These items can lead to a chimney fire, can cause large embers to exit the flue igniting nearby combustibles AND the ashes/embers can be unpredictable.

*NEVER dump ashes into a plastic container, cardboard box, bag, or anything or place where combustible fluids of fumes are present.

Enjoy your fireplace or woodstove but always dispose of the ashes wisely.

I apologize to everyone for my absence. The great news is that everything is going great! Just got Monday’s labs and that makes 36 weeks of stable values since October of last year!! Creatinine ranges between 1.5 and 1.8. Every other value in it’s range. Don’t feel any differences in general either way. But it seems my indicator is all the dry or patchy skin on my scalp and forearms when it creeps up. Anyone else have skin problems with higher creatinine levels?

I guess my labs have been good enough, because I no longer get my day after results phone call from Dr Hogan’s nurse to tell me to keep doing what I’m doing!

New job is challenging, fun, frustrating and promising all in one. There hasn’t been a DC in the position since approx 2012 and we are all learning a new dance. I sure like how the staff has stepped up to some of the new challenges (or just Me!)! We have some seriously good EMTs & medics working in our “rural” environment. The large population of elderly that we care for keeps us busy and on our toes. With our closest hospital over 40 minutes away, the single provider can usually have everything wrapped up and done by the time we arrive at Summit.

Sure proud of my wife for the unselfish gift of herself to all her real estate clients. She has been CRAZY busy and puts in some serious hours. We have met and made some amazing friends and neighbors in the course of our work/s. The recent article in the local paper (link here - http://www.mogollonrimnews.com/my-story-introducing-teressa-mccluskey-realtor/ highlights Teressa and all that our family has accomplished.

Feeling pretty darn accomplished. Battling a chest cold for the past week, long 48 hour shift at Heber, ending at 7am. Went ahead and took my wildland arduous packtest, 3 mile walk, 45 lb pack in under 45 minutes at 8. 7 months post transplant. I think for me that stacks up in the top 10!! Thanks Steve and Brian (Black Mesa Hotshots) for the pace and encouragement!

Literally my first excursion away from the valley. Before transplant it was so difficult to schedule dialysis away from home. Since transplant we just have been so busy. My birthday, and spring break for my step daughter was a great opportunity to head over to LA and get her situated in her new apartment and see FIDM in person. Got to give Megan kudos, it’s a HUGE city, she’s right downtown and she seems to have everything dialed in!

Feb. 7, 2017. A year ago today I received the phone call that has literally changed my life and that of our family. Time has been so compressed that I still can’t grasp or comprehend all that has happened and all that I have gone through. The things that I specifically remember this past year are; the call from LabCorp’s physician, the night in the ER and initial admission, losing our dear Bella (our 13 year old lab on Feb 8th), dialysis (hard to forget dialysis), the call that I had been approved for transplant and on the same day, the text (miracle) from Kitty, that she may have a kidney for me. Of course the surgery (thank you Dr Febrega and his team) but I am humbled again by all your thoughts, support, blessings, prayers and comments, that have in every sense, made this whole thing possible. I am blessed in so many ways and I know I have missed thanking so many individuals and groups, so please know you are all responsible for this success! Most of all I am thankful and blessed for my wife, who I do not deserve and our kids for their resilience and love. Thank you all!!

Was released for a “slow” return to work as of the end of December. Of course my first shift back we had a busy day of patient transports and a trailer fire. So much for being worried about my stamina and strength. Good to be back. Still have room for improvement but sure happy with the progress!
