Tuberculosis (TB) screening is a required component of the immigration medical exam. USCIS guidelines require an IGRA blood test for most applicants.

If test results are positive, a chest X-ray and further evaluation may be necessary to determine whether the infection is active or inactive.

Understanding the TB testing process helps applicants prepare for additional steps, if required.

If you’re unable to attend your USCIS biometrics appointment, not every reason qualifies for rescheduling.

USCIS may consider requests valid in situations such as medical emergencies, unavoidable travel, family emergencies, or work-related obligations. Understanding what qualifies as “good cause” can help you avoid delays or complications in your application.

Our blog explains when rescheduling is accepted and the steps to follow to stay on track.

After submitting a green card application, many applicants want to monitor their case progress. USCIS provides secure online tools that allow applicants to track their case status using a receipt number.

Checking case updates regularly helps applicants stay informed about biometrics appointments, requests for evidence, approvals, and other important milestones in the immigration process.

A positive tuberculosis screening does not automatically disqualify an applicant from receiving a green card. If a TB test is positive, additional evaluation, including a chest X-ray, may be required to determine whether the infection is active.

Active TB must be treated before immigration clearance can be completed. Dr. Gordon will provide the required USCIS documentation, while treatment and follow-up care are coordinated with the applicant’s personal physician and local health department.

The Department of Homeland Security has proposed changes to employment authorization rules for asylum applicants.

The proposal aims to address the growing asylum backlog, reduce incentives for fraudulent claims, and improve the efficiency of the immigration system. If finalized, the rule could introduce stricter eligibility requirements and longer timelines before asylum applicants can obtain work authorization.

The rule is currently in the proposal stage, and existing USCIS policies remain in effect until any final regulation is issued.

The green card has long served as the primary pathway to lawful permanent residence in the United States. Each year, hundreds of thousands of individuals receive permanent resident status through family sponsorship, employment, refugee programs, and other immigration pathways.

For many applicants adjusting status in the U.S., the immigration medical exam is an important step before final approval.
