🌎 Celebrating Earth Day at Tallgrass Creek! 🌱
Tallgrass Creek marked Earth Day by launching a new Food Scrap Composting initiative, distributing countertop containers so residents can easily collect food scraps at home.
In partnership with KC Can, participating residents deposit their scraps every other week into one of two 64‑gallon community carts. Accepted items include food scraps, shredded paper, coffee grounds, bones, and plant materials. KC Can then empties the carts and delivers the contents to a local commercial composting facility.
Participation is completely voluntary, and we’re excited that 30 households signed up right away! The City of Overland Park is funding this pilot program for a full year.
This composting effort complements Tallgrass Creek’s popular glass recycling program and broader recycling initiatives. Recently, residents also had the opportunity to learn more about proper recycling versus trash collection during an educational program with local Waste Management representatives.

We loved hosting our first Spring Fling Outdoor Event at Tallgrass Creek on Monday, April 13! The event featured food, music, bingo, a cake walk, and a community dance. Thanks to the generosity of our residents and staff, our bingo and cake walk fundraiser raised over $1,700 for the Alzheimer’s Association!
