: Responsive Centers recently welcomed Amber Kuykendall, LMSW to our clinical team!

Amber enjoys working with clients ages five and up – especially teenagers. As a therapist, she integrates a wide range of evidence-based modalities, bringing nearly two decades of experience supporting individuals and families across diverse settings. πŸ’›

β€œI have a lot of experience and passion working with autistic individuals, individuals diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and trauma, people in the LGBTQIA+ population, and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” she shared.

Amber wishes more people understood that therapy is not a magic pill. What excites her most about this work is the ability and honor to hold space for and sit alongside people during some of the most impactful, growth-filled, and meaningful periods of life. 🌱

β€œYou have to put in hard work, and you get out as much as you put in. But you can get so much out of it,” she said. β€œWhen it comes to some of the most difficult experiences and emotions, the only way out is through.”

Grounded in CBT, DBT, ACT, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Amber prioritizes teaching her clients skills, interventions, and cognitive restructuring methods that increase resilience and distress tolerance while reducing suffering. ✨

Dr. Rohit Saha also hosted an informational lunch with SPRAVATO this month, allowing our clinical team to learn more about ketamine therapy, an alternative treatment for individuals living with persisting symptoms of depression. Additionally, we introduced one of our newest clinicians – Misha Khan, LCPC – and recognized LGBTQIA+ Pride Month and Men's Health Month. πŸ’™

Thank you to all our staff and clinicians who contributed to these initiatives!

We tuned into the Missouri Psychological Association's Annual Conference this weekend to attend a panel discussion featuring Dr. Steve Hazel – psychologist and co-founder of Responsive Centers – alongside Dr. George Harris, Dr. David Hill, and Dr. Martin Zehr.

Aimed at behavioral health professionals navigating private or group practice, the "Working Smart" discussion consisted of practical tools for collaborating effectively with attorneys, building a quality clientele, recognize appropriate doctoral-level niches, assessing profitability, creating satisfaction with work, and more. πŸ’‘

Thank you Missouri Psychological Association for this opportunity!

– Hello, my name is Misha Khan, and I am an LCPC. πŸ‘‹

I recently joined the practice at Responsive Centers and am accepting new clients at this time. If you are looking for a therapist for yourself, a loved one, or someone in your care, keep reading to learn a little bit about me!

πŸ’¬ ΒΏHablas espaΓ±ol? Yo hablo espaΓ±ol y estoy feliz de trabajar contigo en tu idioma.

I am licensed in Kansas and enjoy working with adults ages 18 to 64 at Responsive Centers. I earned my Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and my bachelor's degree in psychology (with a minor in Spanish!) from the University of Kansas. πŸ’™β€οΈ

My career spans diverse experiences in outpatient, intensive outpatient, and partial hospitalization settings. My clinical background includes individual therapy, group therapy, and couples counseling, and I've treated a range of concerns including substance use, trauma, anxiety, and mood disorders. I am fluent in Spanish and value a culturally responsive approach to therapy, drawing on my background to build strong therapeutic relationships.

Wondering what to expect? Our sessions will likely integrate aspects of evidence-based practices, including CBT and DBT. Also, I value collaboration and work closely with other providers to support client care. 🧠

🌻 At this time, I am accepting clients with Medicare insurance, in addition to clients who prefer self-pay. Bookmark my page to stay in the know about new insurance options in the near future β†’ https://responsivecenters.com/clinician-detail1.php?url_key=misha-khan-lcpc πŸ”–

LGBTQIA-affirming clinicians often prioritize the emotional and physical safety of their clients by allowing them to guide the conversation. πŸ’‘ This Pride Month, we wanted to highlight a few reasons why LGBTQIA-affirming mental health care is necessary. πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

While identifying as LGBTQIA+ is not a mental illness or disorder, LGBTQIA+ individuals often face health disparities linked to stigma, discrimination, and denial of their civil and human rights. Discrimination can discourage LGBTQIA+ people from seeking care and has been associated with high rates of mental health concerns, substance use, and su***de.

However, community and social acceptance of sexual orientation and gender identity can bolster the mental health and personal safety of LGBTQIA+ people. Mental health clinicians can practice cultural sensitivity when serving this population by consciously recognizing the pervasiveness of stigma, including within healthcare.

If you or a loved one are seeking affirming care, reach out to us by visiting responsivecenters.com or dropping by our office to get started. We are proud to provide outpatient mental health services for all populations, serving diverse needs in Overland Park and surrounding neighborhoods. 🌻

Thank you to everyone who participated in our celebration of ! We strive to raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with mental health conditions, celebrate treatment that leads to recovery, and spotlight the vital role mental health plays in our overall health and wellbeing.

This year, the RC team:
πŸ’š Brightened up the lobby with balloons and banners
πŸ’š Wore green, including green ribbon lapel pins to support awareness
πŸ’š Brought guest speakers for a mindfulness exercise and tips on work safety
πŸ’š Handed out hundreds of self-care bags for adult clients and fun grab bags for child clients

Our clinicians and staff work hard to provide resources and information to support those individuals who need mental health support, treatment, and professional guidance. Even as Mental Health Awareness Month wraps up, we will continue to stay focused on awareness efforts all year!
