My goal is to create music that reminds you of a time when there were no harsh sounds. To raise awareness about the healing power of music. To create therapeutic music that has not existed before:
Music that is more than just beautiful
Music that has a specific healing purpose. Music that heals, emotionally and physically. To provide products and training related to music therapy. Most people these days are very stressed. As our environment becomes noisier and noisier, there is a general deterioration of what Janalea calls the sound environment. Her music helps people slow down, get centered, and go within. As tensions are released, they begin to counteract the negative effects of stress. Her idea is that music at 50 and 60 beats per minute helps people synchronize, or entrain, with the rhythm of a natural heartbeat. The key to her music is specific and steady rhythm, which supports lowering blood pressure, slowing heartbeat and deepening breathing.
“When I walk in to the Rhythmic Medicine Studio, I feel free. This welcoming space where I have learned to play the flute, taken continuing education classes, played in the drum circle, circle danced, enjoyed the lovingly served fresh food…and the view…beautiful. I look forward to my next visit!”
Social Worker from Kansas City
Janalea Hoffman is a pioneer in the field of Music Therapy. She is a musician, author, speaker and owner/ founder of Rhythmic Medicine. Her progressive work has been with real people with real issues. Using a synthesis of music, relaxation and imagery, her innovative concepts have brought significant emotional and physical healing to many. Her music helps people go deeper within themselves to get in touch with their body rhythms and gain skill in influencing their own health. A primary aspect of Janalea’s work lies in how music affects the body physiologically. She has developed specific techniques for using music to help lower heart rate and blood pressure and alleviate pain. She is known for developing the concepts of Musical Biofeedback, Musical Acupuncture and music written at exactly 50 beats per minute. An important part of her work is to teach people to play the Native American flute and understand the healing aspects and spirituality of this amazing instrument. As her work expands, her vision is that people will evaluate their “sound environment” as part of their wellness program. Janalea’s work has been featured in such publications as Prevention, Arthritis Today, Breast Cancer Awareness, RN magazines, as well as in Rodale’s book, New Choices in Natural Healing. Her book, Rhythmic Medicine: Music with a Purpose, explains the idea of entertainment. She has created fifteen CDs.
