Important information for our seniors in this hot July weather!

𝗗𝗲𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗢𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀
Adults age 65 and older are at greater risk for dehydration than others. This is due to several factors that may affect older adults including:
● A lower volume of water in the body
● Decreased kidney function
● Diuretic or “water pill” use
● Diminished thirst
● Cognitive impairment
Mild to moderate dehydration is usually treated by replenishing fluids. However, sometimes the symptoms of dehydration can mistakenly be linked to existing conditions. If left untreated, severe dehydration may lead to a trip to the emergency room or hospital. For a list of signs and symptoms of dehydration in older adults, check out the infographic below! And ask for a visit from your dietitian to determine your specific fluid needs to help prevent dehydration.
