Update to the previous post! Bethany is now in network with BCBS and UHC; Aetna is still pending. :) If you know someone looking for a therapist who specializes in working with people who grew up with toxic family dynamics, stuck in toxic relationship cycles, and needs a grounded and direct therapist, send them her way! She loves helping people work on difficulties with building healthy relationships & healthy communication styles.

I never officially shared this, but I’ve transitioned my solo practice to a group practice! 💫

I’m so excited to welcome my first onboarded clinician—and dear friend—Bethany 💜 She brings over 12 years of clinical experience working with diverse populations and walks of life.

Bethany is currently accepting new clients ages 18–65 (individuals only—she’s not seeing couples at this time). Her ideal clients are those wanting to explore and untangle challenging relationship patterns and communication blocks.

She truly shines with people who appreciate honesty delivered with warmth. If you’re looking for someone who can offer grounded, compassionate truth-telling—yes, even over telehealth—Bethany is that person.

Grateful for the invaluable chance to join this panel, working towards destigmatizing mental health and empowering our community with essential information to get access to care. Heartfelt appreciation goes out to all who generously donated their funds, time, and efforts to make this event a reality. And special special thank you to my fellow therapists on this panel.

Can you believe that can bring together so many amazing people? Come join us all Sunday June 9th, 6pm to 8pm at Cafe Ca Phe to get your questions answered about all things mental health.
We will be holding a panel to discuss various different topics and open the floor up to you to ask the hard questions about therapy. We'll go over red flags, insurance questions, sliding scale, and many more things!
I can't believe going to my first Cafe Ca Phe event a few weeks ago would lead me to the AANHPI Identity festival which would then lead me to meet these WONDERFUL people on this panel. Thanks for partnering with Cafe Ca Phe for this event as well. They say that everything comes when it's supposed to and I'm so glad I've met these people. Come get to know us, you won't want to miss this! If nothing else, go to support us because what you learn can be something you pass on to someone else in need of this information.

My specialty is helping with a range of problems, like cultural/family trauma, gender identity issues, or the unique challenges faced by first-generation folks. I focus on supporting people who are moving from strict upbringings to the complexities of being an adult, where suddenly you have a lot more freedom but not much guidance. This shift can bring up trauma from childhood, which can lead to harmful behaviors that helped you cope in the past but aren't helpful now. Together, we work on finding new, healthier ways to deal with these old habits and grow beyond them. So, what are these behaviors I'm talking about? It could be turning to things like drugs or alcohol when you're feeling down, or getting stuck in a cycle of situation-ships. These behaviors used to help you get by in tough situations, but now they're holding you back from forming healthy connections with others. At one point short relationships were freeing and fun, and now it's chronic feelings of loneliness. If you have more questions feel free to join us! Or reach out to me if you want a phone consultation for sessions. :)

Reflecting on the AANHPI heritage month as it comes to a close. I'm sad to see it end because I've never felt so connected and seen in these last 31 days. Let's carry the spirit of celebration, unity, and progress forward every day and continue to uplift each other throughout the rest of the year.

I've been doing a lot of work on myself and a lot of work with people on my caseload using IFS as the main modality. It has been an amazing and beautiful thing to witness each person reconnect with their Self energy and be that parent to their inner children for the first time in decades.
This work has brought me to tears multiple times and it takes my breath away every day. Each person has had vastly different life experiences from all ages, cultures, and levels of trauma. But every person has the same Self energy that they can pull from to pour unconditionally into their inner children because it is unlimited and it is waiting untapped for you to access it.
When you hear from that inner child, acknowledge, honor, and listen. Be curious. They've been waiting for you to come home from getting milk for the past 10+ years.
If you feel like this resonates with you, reach out to me and I'd be happy to answer any questions.

My favorite quote in this article that really sums it all up. "In toxic shame, the nervous system freezes. We lose track of what’s happening around us, and we can only focus on our flaws and lacks. In contrast, healthy shame invites us to pause, pay attention, and reassess ourselves and our environment."
The foundation of what runs the self-fulfilling system in our psyche that feeds our dopamine seeking behaviors is toxic shame. It is super important and life changing to work to transform our toxic shame into healthy shame.
If you catch yourself struggling to get rid of habits you don't like about yourself like over-eating, reaching for the v**e, reaching for your phone to begin your endless scroll, or whatever those habits may be. Some of the underlying causes may be connected to toxic shame and your inner critic. Check out what toxic shame looks like and see if this sounds familiar to you. If you do find yourself feeling like you want to work on toxic shame, check out my website to see if we would be a good fit or reach out to get help from a therapist near you.

I recently had the opportunity to guest teach a class in the KU social welfare program about motivational interviewing. This experience reignited my passion for teaching. One of my favorite things about working as an inpatient therapist was having the opportunity to teach interns every year. Watching the faces of aspiring clinicians excited to learn and soak up the knowledge is so inspirational and it makes me so excited to continue to grow and spread the wealth of knowledge that I've learned over the years. Feels like just yesterday that I was also one of those interns and students. Throwback to my graduation day, it feels like just yesterday. Looking at these photos, it's crazy to see that we are now all experienced, highly skilled, and clinically licensed clinicians! Just to name drop some amazing places these people work, Camber Children's Mental Health, Children's Mercy, Bert Nash, and a lot of us also work in private practice! Only (almost) 6 years later, isn't that crazy?! So excited to see more ways I can give back to our community & the program I graduated from 💜
