It's that time of year so let's talk eye safety.
There are about 2.5 million eye injuries each year in the U.S. And they increase - understandably - in the summer. Half of those happen at home.
Dr. Sahni has a few reminders for everyone. For starters, make sure to wear those sunglasses when you're outside during daylight. That will help protect you from vision damaging UV light. Then the obvious suggestion - protective eyewear for outdoor chores around home like trimming, mowing, cutting and moving trees and brush. If you like to swim, wear a mask or swim goggles to protect your eyes from chlorine. And, finally, cover those eyes when playing sports, especially those with balls of any kind that can hit your face (or when bike riding when rocks, limbs, etc., can damage eyes).
