OUCH! My child hurt my back! I’m a mom of three, a chiropractor, a wholistic herbalist, and founder of Total Care Health Solutions LLC and Total Care Chiropractic Integrative Wellness Center.

When I was struggling with severe pain in my back, I didn’t find solutions in medication. I had never had such severe pain like this before. I couldn’t even go to the bathroom by myself. Let me tell you the story….

I had just had my third child. She was beautiful. I was full of love for her. She was also 9.3 lbs. For those of you who are unaware, that is a big baby. With little to no sleep and caring for this baby, I didn’t heal from birthing well. My back hurt. Then it got worse. Then I couldn’t do anything.

I had three children now. I couldn’t lift them. I couldn’t bend over. Lifting my feet to get into the shower was painful. Even getting in and out of the car to grocery shop or go to church was hard to do.
I began to feel frustrated and guilty for not being able to take care of my family and myself. I wasn’t sure that I was going to be able to go back to work and felt worried that our financial situation would suffer.

I began looking for solutions that I had never tried before. That is when I scheduled my first chiropractic visit. I didn’t even know what to expect. I had never heard of a chiropractor before.

The chiropractor examined my back and helped me discover what was wrong. I had a ‘subluxation’ in my lumbar spine vertebrae. Those are fancy words to describe that my low back was stuck at a boney joint which created a lot of swelling and strained muscles. He helped move the joints so I could heal.

It took a few weeks to be completely rid of all of that pain but it was well worth it. I was able to play with all three of my children, bathe them, do their laundry, or anything else that was needed. I was feeling good and was glad to be able to do the laundry without pain. (maybe not glad to do laundry LOL)

A few years later that I found myself being a doctor of chiropractic. I feel glad to help many others get out of such debilitating pain. Most even come back regularly in order to avoid being ‘knocked down’ again. I get adjustments from Dr. Kitchen myself for that very reason. I like living pain free.

The One Emotion that Extends Your Life

Based on progressive research we find that what we think about and what we feel have far-ranging effects on our immune system.

One important part of our immune system includes the natural killer cell or NK cells. These are a type of lymphocyte and an important player in the war on invading bad microbes and mounting an immune attack to combat these bad microbes. NK cells are known to be protective against cancer. Some studies have documented that the less active your NK cells are the more rapid cancer progression and the more it spreads throughout the body.

And guess what?

These important NK cells actually respond to your mood.

The most important emotion to boost these NK cells is laughter.

When you are feeling good, optimistic and happy your NK cells multiply exponentially!

If you are known pessimist, there is still hope for you.

A study done at the University of California showed that actors who spent time performing depressing movie scenes had a decreased immune responsiveness. On the other hand actors who performed roles where they were uplifting, had an increased immune responsiveness. So the moral of the story is something called, Fake it till you make it. Yes, even if you don't feel happy, at least act like you do! Your body's immune system will reward you for it.

Here is a good punch list to improve your mood and of course boost your NK cells: These include: watching funny movies, making music or listening to uplifting music, coloring in books, walking in the woods, going to a comedy show, spending time with good uplifting friends to something as simple as taking a soaking bath with relaxing herbs.
