Backpacks, Posture and the Developing Spine..
Your child’s spine is still forming—and how they carry their backpack matters more than you think!
When backpacks are too heavy, worn incorrectly, or sit low on the spine, they pull the body into compensatory postures that stress the spine and nervous system. Over time, this affects:
•Spinal curvature development
•Nerve signaling to muscles and organs
•Core strength and balance
•Physical fatigue and immune resilience
Even small misalignments (subluxations) in the cervical or thoracic spine can interfere with proprioceptive input—your child’s ability to sense where their body is in space—which affects coordination, focus, and regulation.
We often see recurring shoulder tension, headaches, and poor posture that correlates directly with backpack habits. We can help! Regular adjustments help detect early stress and help prevent long-term dysfunction.
Come see us! We can even check that backpack fit, too.
