🖐️ Hand therapy exercises can improve strength, flexibility, and everyday function.

Try a few of these simple moves at home:
✅ Fist to open hand stretches
✅ Finger lifts (one finger at a time)
✅ Tendon glides
✅ Thumb-to-finger touches
✅ Squeezing a soft ball or putty

These exercises are great for easing stiffness, improving mobility, and supporting recovery from injuries or conditions that affect hand and wrist movement.

Always move within a comfortable range, and stop if you feel pain.

Quality sleep is one of the most important parts of recovery. Whether you’re dealing with an injury, managing long-term pain, or working toward better strength and mobility, how well you sleep affects how well your body responds to therapy.

Most adults need seven to nine hours of sleep to support healthy healing. Getting less can slow reaction time, affect focus, and increase the risk of strains, falls, and reinjury. Short daytime naps can help too, as long as they’re kept under an hour and not too late in the day.

Consistent routines make a big difference. A regular sleep and wake time, a quiet and cool room, and limited evening screen time can all support more restful sleep. Going to bed comfortable — not too hungry or too full — also helps your body settle into deeper rest.

Meet Anjali, one of our talented Physical Therapist Assistants whose path to PT is anything but ordinary.

Anjali began her career in the arts, earning her B.A. in Anthropology from UC Berkeley and her M.F.A. in Dance from UCLA. After more than 20 years performing, teaching, and choreographing, she combined her love for movement and science by earning her PTA degree from MCC Penn Valley.

She’s also a certified yoga instructor with special interests in performing arts, pilates, yoga, manual therapy, and functional training. Her background in mind–body fundamentals adds depth to her work and supports the way she connects with each patient’s healing journey.

We’re grateful to have her on our team.

Did you know the masseter, one of the major jaw muscles, can generate around 100 to 150 pounds of bite force at the molars, with some people reaching closer to 200?

That kind of strength is impressive, but it also means the jaw can become easily strained when something isn’t moving the way it should. That’s where TMD comes in. TMD involves the muscles and joints that control your jaw, and it can lead to pain, tension, headaches, clicking, and limited movement.

Physical therapy plays a key role in helping calm overactive jaw muscles, improve mobility, and restore healthy movement patterns. With the right approach, many people find significant relief and better function.

Manual therapy is one of the core techniques used in physical therapy, a hands-on approach designed to help restore movement and decrease pain. 👐

It includes several methods such as soft tissue work, joint mobilization, and trigger point release, all aimed at improving how your body moves and feels.

Here are a few ways manual therapy can make a difference:
✅ Reduces muscle tightness and stiffness
✅ Improves range of motion and flexibility
✅ Supports healthy posture and joint mechanics
✅ Encourages better movement and faster recovery

Manual therapy is often combined with targeted exercise and other treatments to help your body move more efficiently and recover more fully.
