Did You Know? Your muscles don’t just move your body, they generate heat every time you use them! 🔥

That’s one reason warming up before exercise is so important. A proper warm-up increases blood flow, raises muscle temperature, and helps prepare your muscles for the work ahead. Warmer muscles are more flexible, contract more efficiently, and are less likely to get injured.

Physical therapists use this principle every day in rehab to help patients safely build strength, improve flexibility, and get the most out of every movement. Moving your body isn’t just about burning calories, it’s about getting your muscles ready to perform at their best.

Have you seen the machine in our clinic called the Reformer? This versatile tool uses adjustable springs to provide resistance or support during movement. Physical therapists use it to strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, enhance balance, and retrain proper movement patterns.

Patients recovering from injury or surgery benefit from its low-impact, controlled exercises, while others use it to improve overall stability and movement efficiency. The resistance can be adjusted for any level, allowing safe progression while challenging the body in a targeted way.

The Reformer helps patients rebuild strength, restore mobility, and safely progress through their rehab plan.

✨ Meet Joseph Welling, DPT ✨

Joe has lived all over the world but now calls Kansas City home. After earning his B.S. in Kinesiology from Iowa State University, he completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy at the University of Iowa.

Inspired by his own basketball injury, Joe is passionate about helping athletes recover and prevent future injuries. He specializes in ACL rehabilitation, post-op care, return-to-sport training, and manual therapy.

When he’s not in the clinic, you’ll likely find him traveling, cheering on the Packers and Cyclones, or catching a volleyball or basketball game. 🏀🏐

Head to our website to schedule an appointment with Joseph at our Westwood location!

Do you have sudden pain in your knee, hip, elbow, or shoulder that seems to come out of nowhere? It might be bursitis.

Bursitis happens when tiny fluid-filled sacs (called bursae) that cushion your joints become inflamed. This can be triggered by overuse, repetitive movements, arthritis, or even just daily wear and tear.

Common symptoms include:

• Dull, sharp, or throbbing joint pain
• Swelling and tenderness
• Pain that feels worse at night
• Limited range of motion

The good news? Physical therapy can help reduce pain and inflammation while improving your strength and flexibility so you can move more comfortably.

If this sounds familiar, don’t wait it out—our team at Performance Rehab can help you find relief and get back to doing the things you love. Call today to schedule your appointment!
