Prairie Elder Homes are not corporation-owned or one of a hundred chains. They hire skilled caregivers who share their passion for learning and attend training on a regular basis.

Our homes are located in residential neighborhoods, which help our residents adjust to a new setting because it’s much like their own homes. The setting is intimate with only six to eight residents, and we consider it their home. Through building trusting relationships with family, each of our residents is treated and cared for as an individual. We pay attention to and care about the details of your loved one’s history, preferred routines and lifestyle. At Prairie Elder Homes, their days and activities are too. PEC Friday Flash Such a great week of indoor, outdoor, next door, and barn door activities! We enjoyed exercising outside and inside this week! Lots of fun with the parachute this week. Cowboy the cat made his way to all the farmhouses for visits and lap sitting sessions. We were spoiled with spa hand massages and manicures eating fresh watermelon, and live music with Karen in all the houses🎶🎸. We love working with the Prairie Health therapy team, playing noodle balloon ball, and doing puzzles and playing Yahtzee🎲🎲. We checked on the sunflowers growing in the garden. They are officially taller than Rex!🌻Butch & Sunny, the guinea pigs are enjoying life and farm west and eating fresh from the organic garden. We sat on the porches, threw hatches, and enjoyed ice cream on a hot day🍦🔥. We interacted with volunteers, got silky with fun hats and glasses, and enjoyed live piano music with Anna🎶♥️🕺🏽💃. We helped around the farm with the animals, garden, and watering plants.

The Alzheimer’s Association made a big national announcement yesterday. The Longest Day is now Do What You Love To End ALZ. Isn’t that great?! It’s no longer just one day a year, you can do what you love as a fundraiser any day of the year! Now is the time to do your part to end ALZ and all dementias. The money we raise stays local. Also, they have a totally new ALZ website. Much more fundraiser and user friendly. Be sure to check it out. 💜

PEC Friday Flash✨
Another hot, humid week in the books. We made sure to get outside early in the day for animal and nature therapy. We stayed cool indoors with spa manicures for all, fun workout sessions, and live music with Mike on guitar🎸, and later in the week with Richelle and all her instruments🎻🪕🎶. We danced our way through the week with fun arts & craft projects, the Daily Chronicle each day, and many social events. We welcomed a new resident, celebrated Volunteer Avery’s birthday, and visited with family and friends. We had a boat building contest between the three houses. It was super fun with staff and residents involved. Thank you Ascend Hospice for judging the competition and supplying the prizes. Congratulations to Farm East for winning🏆! We went on walks, visited the neighbors, and enjoyed Betsy the Baker’s berry pie demonstration! We love when she is here🍓🍒🍎. We loved on Cowboy the barn cat, created decorative rocks, and visited on the porches. We leaned about the history of cracker jacks, did game stations, and helped with chores. Endingvthe week with happy hour🥂🍹🍸🍷🍻.

Meet the People of PEC🏆
Meet Chrissy. She works at the Farm East House on our day shift as a CMA. One of Chrissy’s favorite ways to connect with her residents is to do their nails. The residents feel special and enjoy having their nails cleaned, trimmed, and painted. Thank you Chrissy for all you do to make PEC at great place to live.♥️

Meet the people of PEC🏆
This is Melanie. She is one of our caregivers who works nights. In addition to taking care of the residents who can’t sleep, don’t feel good, need to get up to use the bathroom, or just need to be comforted, Melanie loves to bake. She makes most of the desserts on the menus for all three farmhouses. You can be sure she’s going to put her own twist on it! And she puts a little extra love in which makes everything better. Thank you Melanie for all you do at PEC.

Music evokes emotions and memories, which is why musical interventions have therapeutic benefits for people living with dementia. Music interventions have proven to reduce agitation, improve communication and caregiver relationships. Plus it’s fun, makes us feel like moving, and brings people together. So turn the volume up and have a music-filled Sunday🎶.

PEC Friday Flash✨
Feeling hot, hot, hot🔥🔥🔥
What a fun and active week on the farmstead! We had outdoor time every morning befit became too hot. We sang, danced, and enjoyed being together😍. We loved having all our volunteers at PEC this week. We are so thankful when they visit. We never tire of watching Cowboy the cat out in his adventures. Cowboy’s two sidekicks, Butch & Sunny, (the guina pigs)are getting lots of love and attention from the residents. We exercised every morning; outside, inside, with balls, with balloons, with Melissa and Grace, OT. We had a vegtable and fruit tasting in the barn. Our home grown crops are the best!🍓🍎🌱🥔🍉🥒🥕🌽🍅
We were artsy and crafty, our staff served delicious meals and homemade desserts, and we enjoyed all the innovative activities with Melissa, Lisa, and the care teams in the houses. We had two live musicians in the houses this week🎶🎻🎸. We did indoor tic-tac-toe with Rex, played cone toss on the patio with Yabi, abd enjoyed the activity stations at the lake house. We live visiting the other houses, going on walks on the beautiful farmstead, and having dance parties on the patios🕺🏽💃. Thank you to all the PEC Care Team members who help to make PEC such a special place.🏆♥️

PEC Friday Flash✨
We started the week with outdoor poetry group. We enjoyed delicious meals, spending time with our volunteers, and learning all about our residents and their accomplishments through life. We had painting class, helped prepare meals, and did Connectivities. We made and packaged our famous snack mix, played patriotic BINGO, and enjoyed the ducks and farm animals. We picked fruit and veggies from the garden, loved Baking with Betsy, and did doing art. We have 2 new additions to Cowboy’s Wild West Gang. Please give a big Howdy to Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid. Butch and Sunny are Guinea Pig’s and live at the Farm West house. You will be seeing more of them and Cowboy in the coming weeks do be sure to follow us on FB. We enjoyed front porch time, back patio time and going on walks. We had a picnic for the 4th, farm West won the America Trivia Contest, and Richelle visited to play music and a sing-a-long. We enjoyed bomb pops to beat the heat and played balloon ball with Kari.
