►► Prairie Elder Homes: A comforting alternative to traditional institutional care. Passion and commitment is our homes’ foundations

Prairie Elder Homes are not corporation-owned or one of a hundred chains. They hire skilled caregivers who share their passion for learning and attend training on a regular basis.

>> Residential Neighborhoods & only 6 to 8 residents for personal care

Our homes are located in residential neighborhoods, which help our residents adjust to a new setting because it’s much like their own homes. The setting is intimate with only six to eight residents, and we consider it their home. Through building trusting relationships with family, each of our residents is treated and cared for as an individual. We pay attention to and care about the details of your loved one’s history, preferred routines and lifestyle. At Prairie Elder Homes, their days and activities are too. One of the unique features you will find in a Prairie Elder Home is the >>Snoezelen Approach> Premium, personalized shouldn’t come only at a premium price

It’s been a wonderful Christmas week in all the houses. We’ve had family visiting, baked treats galore, gift giving, lots of music, including DeeDee’s grandson, Andrew, on guitar! We have sung all the carols, watched Christmas Shows, and enjoyed a delicious holiday meal. We ended the week celebrating Ray and Annette’s birthdays.
Enjoy all the Christmas week photos!🎄🎶🥰🎂♥️

Caring for someone with dementia is challenging. The days are unpredictable, caregivers battle exhaustion, and there are feelings of guilt, resentment and confusion to work through. If you are a caregiver to a parent and still care your own children home(Sandwich Generation),you can add financial strain, severe burnout, time management issues, strained relationship issues, and career sacrifices. We are pleased to share the following story that highlights one of our PEC Day Program families.

Between now and 2030, about 10,000 Americans will turn 65 every single day, giving rise to a term known as the "sandwich generation" -- adults who find thems...

Such a fun day at the farmstead. Each house had residents and staff fully engaged in the Annual PEC Gingerbread House Decorating Contest. The first house pictured is Farm East. The second house pictured is Farm West. The last house pictured is Lake House. Clearly each house created a masterpiece. The judges had many positive things to say about each house. And because it was hard to pick, each house wins. 🏆🏆🏆

PEC Friday Flash✨
‘‘Twas the week before Xmas and all through the houses, everyone was stirring including the Christmas mouses 🐭🎄. The residents were busy singing Xmas songs🎶,
listening to music by Mike, and enjoy Anna’s piano sing-a-long. Hank, the Xmas dog, was busy visiting the gang. Making residents smile, giving wet kisses, then leaving with a bang💥. We opened gifts from family and holiday cards. What a beautiful week to be out in the yards☀️. Lisa taught us about snowflakes, we even made a few❄️. Then we all made Christmas trees and helped make the stew. We painted trees and wooden snowflakes, then went to farm east and all danced to the music Mike Ashley makes
💃🕺🏽. Robin did our hair and we look pretty good! No wearing hats, scarves, or hoods🧢🧣🧕! There was Santa playing handpan, family visits, and faith service with Mark. We acted silly, had lots of laughs, and now we are happy as a lark. 🥰

PEC Friday Flash✨
This week’s holiday baking was a huge hit-chocolate peppermint loaves! Everyone helped with the making, baking, and eating♥️, including Hank our sweet PEC dog. We enjoyed lots of live music; Anna on piano, Rebecca on keyboard at Farm West, and the very talented Richelle and dancing Dan🎶. We made snowflakes and very fun Reindeer Jars❄️🫎. We enjoyed delicios meals, exercised with staff, and lived a visit from Elf & Christmas Tree at FW, complete with handpan music, great conversation, and lots of laughs. We had a jolly time at the staff holiday party! Fun games, delicious food and gifts. We ended the week with the CAPS students caroling snd connecting in the houses. This has been a fabulous group of students and we will miss them.

It’s A Wrap! We are so incredibly thankful for our partnership with The Blue Valley CAPS CNA Program. This was the first class of seniors to participate in the PEC Brain Health Program! The brain health program is the first of its kind and focuses on how the students develoing brains shape decision-making, stress responses, and learning. It covered practical habits to support cognitive performance- such as consistent sleep, nutrition, physical activity, and responsible technology use-while explaining the science behind what these habits matter. Students learned strategies for managing stress, improving focus, and maintaining emotional well-being, along with the risks that substances like alcohol, ni****ne, and drugs pose to the still-maturing brain. The students have built lifelong skills for resilience, healthy brain and physical health, and mental health awareness as they transition into adulthood.
Our residents have been a large part of their overall program experience. As they learn and train to be CNA’s they also care and connect with the residents at PEC. Many building friendships during their time here with the tesidents AND coming back to visit and volunteer.♥️ I should mention all 60 of the CAPS students this semester passed their state test.🏆 A big shout out to the CNA instructors Laura Benscheidt and Amy Hamera. These ladies truly care about their students.♥️

PEC Friday flash🌲
The weather outside this week was frightful but inside at PEC was so delightful 🎶🥰. We help prepare some warm and comforting meals; our PEC can really cook!we did many crafty, creative, and community inspired activities. The beaded Christmas tree was a big hit. We enjoyed family visits, making ornaments, and enjoying Hank, the therapy dog, visits 🐾🦴♥️. We baked some holiday goodies, enjoyed our hair appointments with Robin✂️🪞, and getting our nails done by Chrissy at Farm East💅. A big thank you to Mark Harmon for leading our PEC Friends in Faith in each house on Wednesday⛪️. Happy Birthday to Barb at Farm West. We enjoyed celebrating you🎉. We enjoyed working with the therapy team at Prairie Health KC, doing exercise class each morning, and doing a really fun tree creation with Lisa in each house. We did puzzles, brain games, and lived our live music this week. Thank you to Mike who sang and played guitar on Monday and Anna who played piano in Friday 🎶. We ended the week with Farm Fridayscwith the CAPS students. We really value our time with them.♥️ Everyone stay warm!
