With a distinguished 27-year career as a successful trial attorney, Lisa Bower has transitioned her focus to the realm of mediation. Throughout her tenure as a trial attorney, Lisa has participated in countless mediations, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. For more than 40 years, Steve has been continuously involved in trial work; 25 years as litigation counsel and 17 years as a Kansas state trial judge assigned to civil, domestic, criminal, and probate cases. Steve understands litigating cases from the perspectives of the attorneys for claimants and defendants, of clients, and of judges. He is uniquely positioned to mediate cases in a manner considering the positions of attorneys and their clients, yet reducing the influence of emotional attachment which often is an impediment to pretrial resolution.

Greg Kincaid has practiced law in Kansas City for over 40 years—most of that time in family law mediation. Greg has mediated more than 2,000 divorces and has been repeatedly recognized by his peers as a Kansas “Super Lawyer” in Family Law.

Greg has completed a domestic internship with Johnson County Domestic Court Services and has completed the Core, Civil and Domestic training. He has taught divorce mediation at Johnson County Community College. He has served as a member of both the Family Law and Ethics Committee of the Johnson County Bar Association. He is a Master in the Family Law Inns of Court. As a trained mediator and collaborative divorce attorney, Mr. Kincaid has helped many families avoid the traditional adversarial approach to separation, divorce, and other family issues.

Greg lives in Johnson County. When not mediating, Greg has written six novels: Death Walk at Acoma (Sunstone 1991); A Dog Named Christmas (Random House 2008); Christmas with Tucker (Random House 2010); A Christmas Home ( Random House 2012); Ta***ic Coconuts (Random House 2014), and Noelle (Penguin Random House, 2017). Two of his novels were made into feature length films. He is currently working on a children’s book to be published next year.

Ms. McCarthy is an experienced family law and mediation attorney and has extensive trial experience handling both court and jury trials. She has completed Core, Civil, and Family Mediation training and has advanced coursework in Family Mediation. Ms. McCarthy has significant mediation experience in corporate environments mediating disputes between departments, and between companies and their clients. Richard T. Merker has nearly 5 decades of case litigations under his belt with over 150 jury trials. He’s successfully tried a murder trial defending an 18yr old client who protected his mother from his abusive step-father, product liability cases, and multitudes of wrongful injury disputes. When not acting as a lawyer, Rick has been an expert consultant on several bad faith and malpractice cases.

Holding every elected position in the Johnson County Bar Association (including President), Rick has a trusted reputation across the metro area. This reputation has led him to become twice submitted to the Governor as a nominee for Johnson County District Court Judge and being appointed to represent the Johnson County Grand Jury.

After serving for a law firm for 50 years, Rick now sets his sights on mediation. His aim is to bring his wealth of experience towards settling disputes outside of the courtroom. His credibility, objectivity, and adaptability allow for quick and creative resolutions.

Meet Kevin Moriarty!

Kevin Moriarty knows what it’s like to be a litigator. He understands the self-imposed stress and the challenges of a difficult case, client or opposing attorney. His experience as a judge has been that nearly all attorneys do a wonderful job representing their clients’ interest; but all too often, clients don’t appreciate the hard work their attorney has done on their behalf. Understandably, some clients have only one perspective of their case but when their attorney offers another perspective, the relationship can become strained. Kevin understands the importance of the attorney/client relationship and realizes how difficult it is to get a fair resolution while simultaneously educating the client about the complexity and pitfalls of litigation.

Now, as former Chief Judge of the 10th Judicial District with over 40 years of courtroom experience, Kevin has shifted to full-time mediations. He’s focusing his extensive experience on resolving disputes before they enter the courtroom.
