🌟 Pediatric Occupational Therapy at SENT! 🌟 We’re proud to collaborate with Pediatric Connections OT, led by the experienced Deana Lesher, to bring trauma-informed pediatric occupational therapy to Shawnee and Douglas Counties!

This is the only trauma-informed pediatric OT model in the region, offering a unique focus on:
✔️ Sensory integration
✔️ Trauma recovery
✔️ Helping children and adults succeed in daily activities

💡 What is Trauma-Informed Pediatric Occupational Therapy?

💙 Stories like this remind us why we do what we do. One of our amazing partners, Pediatric Connections - Occupational Therapy, is changing lives in profound ways. Recently, a parent stopped us in the hallway to share their journey:

They had tried everything—nothing seemed to work. Their daughter had faced incredible challenges, even being removed from four schools. But since starting occupational therapy, their story has taken a new direction.

For the first time, their family is experiencing real progress. This week, their daughter achieved a huge milestone—her first half-day in public school. 🌟

Expanding services to this amazing community in Topeka in September!

🌟 We are thrilled to announce that Pediatric Connections will be providing Occupational Therapy services at SENT Prep Academy, our early childhood education center! 🏫✨

Their focus will be on ensuring Kindergarten readiness in all developmental domains, including:
🖐️ Fine motor skills
🏃 Gross motor skills
😊 Social/emotional development
👀 Visual and oral motor skills
🧠 Behavioral skills

Pediatric Connections' OT team is uniquely trained in reflex integration and trauma-informed care, making them perfect partners for our community. They will also educate our classroom teachers on sensory processing and behavior regulation, equipping them with the tools and skills needed for a successful classroom environment.

We are excited about the positive impact this will have on our students and their readiness for kindergarten!

This is why our methodology is INTEGRATION!

Reflex Inhibition vs Reflex Integration?

The language people use around working with reflexes, tends to wind me up a bit.

Inhibition means to restrict or stop something from doing its job. A force that prevents something from happening.

Integration means to bring together - the act of bringing or incorporating parts into a whole.

Reflexes are a fundamental part of who we are. They are building blocks in our nervous system. They have a job to do. In fact, many jobs to do.

The therapeutic process of working with them, should help to facilitate this process, when it has struggled to do so, in the first place. They are not a disease to be gotten rid of, or to be afraid of. Everything is connected. Nothing works in isolation.

I know which language and understanding of the role of reflexes in our function, I prefer.
