Mini Mummy Pizzas are the perfect Halloween snack for kids!

Here’s how to make them:

Grab a flatbread or a cauliflower round and place it on a baking sheet. Top with tomato sauce, then drape long shreds of mozzarella string across to look like mummy wrapping. Use green and black olives to create eyes. Bake in the oven until warm and slightly crisp on the bottoms. Then enjoy! 😋

Start this anti-aging hack right away!

When it comes to aging gracefully, staying physically active is one of the best ways to ward off age-related diseases such as type-2 diabetes, cancer, depression, and dementia. A sedentary lifestyle has been shown to initiate inflammatory hormones in the body that you definitely don’t want!

The best practice is to incorporate some kind of exercise into your daily routine to keep the inflammatory process in check and keep you looking young and beautiful!

Did you know that washing your face at night is an anti-aging hack? 🧼

Here are 4 great reasons to wash your face every night!

1. Your face is exposed all… day… long… to dirt, debris, the oils from your hands, and so on. So don’t take that dirty skin to bed – wash your face every night!

2. Eliminating the daily build-up of oil and other contaminants means you will be less prone to acne breakouts. When you wash your face before bed, this will help to unclog your pores and allow your skin to breathe throughout the night.

3. Not washing your face means your skin has to fight a bit harder against the topical toxins and debris that can accumulate. These free radicals can break down healthy collagen, leading to fine lines and wrinkles. No thanks!

4. While you sleep, your skin is hard at work doing loads of repair overnight. Washing your face before bed and using a quality moisturizer will provide a nourishing barrier, keeping your skin protected all night long.

When selecting facial care products, be sure to find ones with clean ingredients. Check out Kari Gran if you’re looking for something new!

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient in the body. It helps build strong bones, absorption of calcium, and many other important jobs in the body. But just because everyone is talking about vitamin D doesn’t mean you necessarily need it. So before taking it, be sure to get your vitamin D levels checked to make sure your body actually needs more.

An ideal blood level of vitamin D is between 35-50 ng/mL.

When Vitamin D is increased (over 50 ng/mL), this may indicate:
-Excess vitamin D intake from your supplement regime
-Elevated serum calcium

When Vitamin D is low (under 35 ng/mL), this might mean:
-Insufficient dietary intake
-Decreased cholesterol
-Increased risk for autoimmune conditions

The next blood marker to look at is alkaline phosphatase (ALP). ALP is a zinc-dependent enzyme that can be found throughout the body. When this marker is decreased, we would definitely consider a possible zinc deficiency but there are other health conditions to consider as well. Here are just a few…

When ALP is low (under 85 IU/L), it could indicate:
-Possible zinc or vitamin D deficiency
-Hypothyroidism
-Need for hydrochloric acid/insufficient protein
-Magnesium or vitamin C deficiency

When ALP is elevated (over 117 IU/L), it may indicate:
-Excess vitamin D
-Osteoporosis
-Biliary or pancreatic dysfunction
-Liver dysfunction
-Herpes zoster (shingles)

Your blood labs can reveal a lot about what’s going on in your body. This week, I want to share a few important blood markers and what it means if it’s outside the optimal range.

The first up is Total Protein. This is literally the total amount of protein found in your blood. When looking at total protein, an ideal range is 6.6 – 7.4 g/dL.

An increased level (over 7.4 g/dL) could be indicative of:
-Dehydration
-Liver or biliary dysfunction
-Adrenal hypofunction (underactive)
-Hypochlorhydria (increased globulins)
-Need for more amino acids

A low level (less than 6.6 g/dL) could mean:
-Malnutrition or protein deficiency
-Inflammation in the gut, leaky gut, IBS, gastritis, etc.
-Thiamine (B1) deficiency
-Thyroid hyperfunction (overactive)
-Adrenal hyperfunction (overactive)
