I had lunch and spent the day with my mentor, Emmanuel Pruitt, yesterday. Mr. Pruitt and Rodney Powell served as my funeral director and embalming preceptors more than 25 years ago during my apprenticeship at the historic Black and Clark Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Pruitt, from Black and Clark Funeral Home, along with Allen Madison from Evergreen Funeral Home and the late Walter A. Wilson, Sr., the founder of the now-defunct Cedar Crest Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas sponsored my apprenticeship.

Embalming is rarely required by law in the United States, but state laws typically mandate embalming or refrigeration if the body is not buried or cremated within 24 to 48 hours. While not legally required for most viewings, many funeral homes insist on it for open-casket.

The importance of dealing with a licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer at a licensed establishment cannot be overstated. As the only licensed Legacy Funeral Home in Texas, we stress the need for caution. Be wary of unlicensed individuals in unlicensed storefronts or online services leveraging church or pastor affiliations to imply legitimacy. The way you can distinguish us from the rest is ask for their State of Texas credentials and if they are veteran owned and operated.

If you're not a family member that we've served in the past, a perspective customer, our associate, affiliate, a licensed funeral director and embalmer (dualed license), a graduate of an accredited mortuary college, or a funeral home owner, we kindly request that you refrain from engaging with our page regarding our post. To keep it brief, as the owner of a funeral home, I prefer to communicate directly with business owners rather than their employees. Let's respect each other's boundaries and focus on our respective areas of expertise. Instead of trying to control someone else's destiny or business, please focus on your own endeavors. Again, a boss deals with bosses, not their employees. Stay in your lane and we will stay in ours. Thank you and have a blessed day! 🙂

We just reached 5K followers! Thank you for continuing support. We could never have made it without each one of you. The community had low expectations of our success. Family members and soo called friends did not support. But God allowed us to burn the mortgage on our facility in 4 years. Now that's favor and grace. We've been in the funeral business for more than 24 years. Our founder started at a young age digging graves for his late grandfather's business Lacy's Grave Digging Service in Henderson, Texas. Our prayer is to provide more church services within our community. We've only provided services at 3 African American churches in the past 20+ years. But God sent other communities to fill that void. We're greatful for all of the families who supported our certified veteran owned business. 🙏🤗🎉
