You know that feeling when you collapse on the couch after a long day and think "Ahh, finally relaxing"?
Here's what I've discovered after 20+ years of teaching yoga: That's probably not relaxation. That's just... less doing.
True relaxation feels like melting. Like your body is so heavy it's actually light as a feather. It's the embodied feeling of "AHHHH!" where every cell exhales at the same time.
And most of us? We've literally never experienced it.
Here's why this matters: We're so caught up in our to-do lists, work, family, errands, responsibilities that we aren't even aware our bodies are holding tension. We don't know what we don't know until we experience the difference.
(And yes, that's wisdom from 1980s G.I. Joe cartoons. "Knowing is half the battle!" 😄)
Try this quick check right now:
Notice your shoulders. Are they up by your ears?
Unclench your jaw (you probably didn't realize it was clenched)
Take a deep breath. Did your chest barely move?
Those are all signs of tension you've been carrying without knowing it.
