It's FOODIE FRIDAY and we there is Big news in nutrition — the food pyramid is back 🍽️
The newly released Dietary Guidelines for Americans (2025–2030) reintroduced an updated food pyramid, and the biggest shift is this:
👉 Protein and healthy fats are no longer afterthoughts — they’re foundational.
Why this matters for our kids
🧠 Brains are built from protein and fat
Children’s brains are still developing. Protein provides the amino acids needed to make neurotransmitters (chemical messengers that affect focus, mood and behavior), while healthy fats make up a large portion of brain tissue itself. Inadequate intake has been linked in research to challenges with attention, learning and emotional regulation.
⚡ More stable energy = better behavior
Meals centered around protein and healthy fats help slow blood-sugar swings. That means fewer crashes, fewer meltdowns and more consistent focus — especially during school hours.
🧩 Growth, hormones and nervous systems depend on it
Protein supports physical growth and tissue repair, while fats are essential for hormone signaling and nervous system development. Kids don’t just need calories — they need the right building blocks.
And why it matters for us mommas too
🧠 Mental clarity and stress resilience
Our brains also rely on steady neurotransmitter production. Skipping protein or fearing fats can contribute to brain fog, anxiety and irritability — especially under chronic stress.
🔥 Hormone balance and metabolism
Healthy fats are raw materials for hormone production. Consistently under-eating fats can impact hormones tied to mood, weight regulation and energy.
🛑 Less burnout, more stability
Balanced meals with protein and fats help regulate blood sugar and cortisol, which matters when you’re juggling kids, work and life with very little margin.
What this looks like on a real plate
🥚 Protein: eggs, poultry, fish, yogurt, beans, grass-fed meats
🥑 Healthy fats: avocado, olive oil, nuts, seeds, full-fat dairy
🥦 Plus: fruits and vegetables for fiber and micronutrients
This isn’t about eating more — it’s about eating smarter.
Better fuel. Better focus. Better days. For our kids and for us!
