During Brain Injury Awareness Month, Ascension St. John Rehabilitation Hospital of Owasso is proud to share the stories of two people in our hospital family who were affected by brain injuries.

Jerry Traywick, our former facilities director, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2025. He had surgery and received therapy at our hospital before continuing treatment. With support from his wife, De, and our team, Jerry remains active and continues moving forward.

Chris Hayes, the father of nurse Sheyenne Odell, also faced a brain tumor and had successful surgery in 2026. While he did not need inpatient rehabilitation, our team supported his family during this time. Chris said, “By the grace of God, I pulled through. Our Encompass Health Owasso family wrapped us in so much love.”

These stories remind us why Brain Injury Awareness Month matters and how important support, care and community can be during recovery.
